How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A wonderful rhythm strategy game that captivates with its melodies and unusual gameplay solutions. And even the mediocre quality of the remaster itself cannot spoil this original diamond. Unless, of course, you encounter input lag - then it will spoil it.”

“Patapon 1+2 Replay is highly recommended, especially for those who enjoy games that are different from the norm or those who played the original years ago. It's still full of charm, and the sounds and music will stay stuck in your head for days. But it's a shame that Patapon 3 wasn't included.”

“Patapon 1+2 Replay is a real blast from the past and more than proves why this series was such a hit for Sony. It's simple to play, but if you dig deeper you'll find that there's a real meaty game here. The rhythm-based controls make it unlike any strategy game you've ever played before. There are some small frustrations, but generally it succeeds in what it tries to do.”

“PATAPON 1+2 Replay establishes itself as an excellent return, capable of winning the hearts of gamers thanks to a skilful balance between modernity and respect for the original work, making the experience accessible and enjoyable for anyone who wants to approach it. Despite the sometimes challenging grinding and rather basic narrative, the development team's work in preserving the artistic identity and improving the technical and gameplay aspects is evident and appreciable. If you are ready to beat the pace and lead the Patapon to Fineterra, this is undoubtedly the perfect opportunity to do so.”

“There’s no need for too many words here. Patapon is a game that takes you back to the creative golden days, reminding us of a time when everything was driven by pure artistic energy - not cold financial reports. This one’s not to be missed!”

“Rhythm action is a hard thing to get right at the best of times but, Patapon 1+2 Replay is a joyous package. It's great to see the return of such a niche and interesting set of games, and to see them reach new platforms too. With challenging gameplay and a fun sense of style, players would be remiss to miss this unique experience. Get these!”

“PATAPON 1+2 REPLAY allows you to relive the emotions of yesteryear, the rigorous mechanics, and the unique universe of this cult series. However, I regret that nothing has been done to improve the experience or bring it up to date. Admittedly, there are now a few accessibility options, but nothing that would modernize the franchise. Nevertheless, I hope that it will be a success so that we can perhaps look forward to a new episode in the future.”

“But it’s hard to knock the games too hard for retaining original experience intact in this respect, as the remasters improve pretty much everything else. This collection leaves you with what is now the definitive way to experience Patapon and Patapon 2.”

“Patapon 1 + 2 Replay recalls and rescues a forgotten PSP classic, and even though it maintains the idea without many tweaks, it is still a worthwhile package due to the originality, fluidity and fun of the games, which have certainly stood the test of time very well.”
