How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The irony is that Aspyr has done a nice job with remastering the visuals in both games and we enjoyed seeing the results. But the reality is that these games often feel old, they're extremely buggy, and the online play is hit-and-miss. This should have been a slam dunk. Instead, playing Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection made us feel sad. If Aspyr can fix the slew of technical issues, this might one day be worth picking up on Switch. Until that happens, though, the Force isn't with this one.”

“Provides a great opportunity to experience the excitement of battle from the movies, but only to a degree”

“Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is close to being enjoyable. There is a solid foundation to build from in these games, but the lack of variety makes them boring. Fans of the originals and of the movies will be unsatisfied since these versions are hopelessly broken, and the online play, which is supposed to be the main draw, is unplayable. If there is an update to address the technical failings, both Battlefront titles are still just a couple of average movie tie-ins from the 2000s.”

“Aspyr has done a serviceable, even admirable job with its porting of Star Wars titles up to this point, but the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection represents a monumental misstep and a much-deserved blemish on its reputation. These are two beloved games representing some of the very best experiences the Star Wars IP has ever offered. To release these remasters in this state is deeply concerning. Our only solace is the fact that, eventually, most of the problems should be fixable.”

“Star Wars Battlefront Collection is a nostalgic blast from the past, but misses the mark with its included online mode. While it is worth a revisit, this is not the definitive way to play the classics.”

“All that being said though Star Wars Battlefront Collection isn’t a terrible game by any stretch, its just very much a game of its time and sadly I just don’t see myself playing it with the same vigor that I did when these games originally released. I think Ryan said it best, when he said in the year 2024 with so many great games out currently and on the cusp, I don’t think I would play this like it deserves. And he’s not wrong, Helldivers 2 has been that new hotness but we have a little game called Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the horizon as well as Rise of the Ronin and others that could be huge games. Listen, I know it sounds as if I don’t recommend this game but that is quite the contrary. For as long as the servers can attract players this will be a blast to play with friends. But if nothing else I hope this does the sales numbers to show that THIS is the type of Battlefront game that fans want, not what EA released in the reboots. The whole time playing this I yearned to be able to play the cancelled and leaked Battlefront 3 game. A man can certainly dream.”

“Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is an imperfect collection that still provides a good hit of nostalgia and fun for those looking for a simpler multiplayer escapade. Despite some issues like music dropout in the first game and bad respawning in both games, both games successfully deliver the idea of big, chaotic Star Wars battles without the modern "features" of experience creep and gacha boxes for upgrades. Online players are going to have a good time thanks to the absence of lag and the presence of 64-player battles with bots to fill the empty slots. Offline players will like the ample number of modes along with split-screen play. Unless you want to put in the work of implementing various mods to bring the older games up to speed, you're better off grabbing this package and diving in.”

“STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection is another remastered game that’ll satisfy our nostalgic taste buds. Other than the issue mentioned earlier, which simply needs a patch, with your increased knowledge of what this bundle contains, plus the improvements, fixes, and extra trimmings, it’s fair to say that it’s a much smarter move to spend extra for a package with more enhanced and polished versions.”

“Aspyr Media's remastered collection does too little to keep the first two Battlefront games relevant for modern audiences.”

“Classic Battlefronts were once great games, but it's been almost 20 years ago. And what was once considered cutting edge is now just a shallow and rather simple experience. The fun is still there, but it's still not something you can expect to spend the next few months with.”

“Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is a solid option if you want to relive some single-player nostalgia but outside of console availability, you can do this for less money already on PC.”

“At the end of the day that's the chief purpose of these remasters: to offer fans a way to play these older Star Wars Battlefront titles on current consoles, with slightly spruced up visuals, and the option to play online. They're still inherently rough around the edges and play a little clunky, but the Classics Collection does what it says on the tin, giving these beloved games a quick dip in the Bacta tank instead of attempting to forge them anew.”
