How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is another great off-road game that is based on previous MudRunner entries. But it's worth noting that the amount of content in this release is rather lacking.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is a great off-roading sim for players who are looking for a more approachable title. Unlike the original MudRunner and SnowRunner, Expeditions offers a more linear approach to the off-roading, exploration, and resource management formula introduced by the franchise initially. If you are a hardcore franchise veteran, it may take you some time to get used to all the handholding, but in the end, this title is a more mainstream off-roading experience rather than just focusing on the hardcore community. Tons of new features, like added off-road assist devices, specialists, and more customizable options, certainly add more ways for you to tackle each mission in the game. If you are looking for a decent off-roading simulation game where you can drive plenty of cool trucks and explore the wilderness at your own pace, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game must be on your to-play list.”

“Expeditions left a good impression. It sticks to the successful MudRunner or SnowRunner style of terrain simulations. There could be more variety of content, but we got exactly what we expected.”

“As difficult as the previous game but more accessible, Expedition feels like a happy medium for the series. The developers didn't make the game significantly easier, but at the same time failures here don't feel as devastating as they did in SnowRunner.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is a great follow-up to the previous Snowrunner and also introduces several new features and improvements. While its focus and greater accessibility may disappoint veterans of the series a bit, it still offers excellent physics and dozens of hours of massive, tough challenges. It’s just a shame there aren’t more locations, or at least more off-road vehicles. Seven out of ten.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game arrives on Switch in a port that does a surprisingly decent job of delivering the goods without getting utterly bogged down by issues en route. This is a big game, a modern, physics-heavy beast, and while there's a blurriness to the visuals which detracts from the overall atmosphere, and some frame rate bumps along the way to boot, the core experience has arrived intact. It's not perfect, but it's a reasonably decent place from (s)which to start for a game that absolutely deserves your time and patience.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is an enjoyable experience, but its highlighting features may not appeal to everyone.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game shifts the slow-moving action of its predecessors from small scale levels full of straightforward challenges to a set of large open world maps designed specifically for freewheeling offroad exploration. The magic of SnowRunner et al remains intact here, with a gloriously atmospheric bunch of regions to get busy taming as you push forward through swamps, across rivers and over mountains in a game that genuinely feels like Death Stranding in a truck at points. Co-op mode may be missing at launch, which is a real shame, and there's a few graphical issues to sort just now, but we reckon this is still Saber Interactive's best crack at the offroad sim yet, and that's saying something.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game offers a similar experience to its predecessors, without offering anything identical. In fact, by taking the player a little more by the hand, the title is without doubt the most accessible in the series. Not to mention that the team at Saber Interactive have done a near-perfect job on the technical front. There are currently around 100 hours of content, and plenty of DLC is also planned to add missions. However, the title may not appeal to older players who lose a certain sense of freedom. Not to mention that the overall experience remains very similar.”

“At its best, Expeditions offers more of the absorbing, slow, and high-risk driving that made MudRunner and SnowRunner such cult successes. It's a clever formula that now has slightly more user-friendly packaging, making it easier than ever to get into. There are still wrinkles, in particular with visual performance, and there's no doubt that this remains a niche that not all petrolheads will love, but if you're on the lookout for something a bit more zen, it's another great entry in the series.”

“Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is a game that adds amazing new elements to the experience we know and love. Even if it has some minor technical issues at the moment, it’s a great adventure.”

“Expeditions feels like an exciting new direction for this series that encourages more experimentation on the gameplay side and I am thrilled that this didn't just feel like Mudrunner or Snowrunner again. I am excited to see where Saber takes the game with its seasonal content, especially after the exciting editions we saw with the Snowrunner seasons.”
