How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a very good representative of the genre, but I feel that after a maximum of a few months, I will put it aside. I want something more from a title of this caliber.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a successful return to a classic, influential, yet somewhat forgotten series that honors the past without being afraid to look ahead. It’s a game created with respect for both the series’ fans and the genre itself. It excels in terms of pure gameplay and will particularly delight passionate, advanced fighting game players. However, for those who prefer a spectacular, emotional, and story-driven experience suitable for single-player, there are other, more suitable games available. For example, Mortal Kombat 1 or Street Fighter 6.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves isn't just an old franchise coming back, but also a return to form for SNK. While there are some missteps here and there, the core game stands toe-to-toe with some of the best out there.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is truly the full package for SNK fans and fighting game veterans looking for a new 1v1 fighter that can go toe-to-toe with this generation's Street Fighter 6. The 17-character roster (with 5 more coming) have a ton of variety and expanded moveset for all sorts of playstyles, the game's aesthetics are full of life and uniqueness, the fighting mechanics are a good balance between simple and complex with tons of nuances, and the extra single-player modes will keep you occupied. It is truly a sublime fighting game experience for both newcomers and veterans.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is an exceptionally good versus fighting game that will turn many players away due to its highly complex systems, simply mashing buttons won't get you very far. The game begs to be played with an arcade stick, but once you start convincing yourself that you're good, international opponents will be waiting to mercilessly put you back in your place.

While it misses the mark in its single-player offerings and the online experience is still not up to competitors' standards, City of the Wolves is one of the most mechanically deep and fun fighting games to come out in recent years

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is, undeniably, a welcome breath of nostalgia for SNK fans, and more than that, it represents a step forward for a franchise that has long been crying out for a worthy sequel.

While we have a very dry and stripped-down single player mode, we also have a fun and deep 2D fighting game that we really felt was needed. A simplified control scheme is available as a function of a plug-and-play experience for the neophyte. The animations of the 3D models fail to compete with the fluidity and beauty of Street Fighter 6's animations or rival the models of Tekken 8, lending a functional aesthetic to a title that besides inviting guests from the real world, does nothing else to attract new players to it. Nonetheless, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves manages to shine in a jaw-dropping light of its own, and I truly hope it represents a firm reinsertion point in the videogame palimpsest of a saga that had been sorely missed.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves won't blow you away like Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8, but as a more rudimentary fighter, it's got guile. Its layered fighting system and vibrant, well-animated characters make for an entertaining overall package that's been 26 years in the making. While the gimmicky guest fighters feel out of place and the supposed RPG-inspired single player mode is insultingly basic, if you're looking for a fine alternative to the more established fighters already on the market, this is more than up to the task.

Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves marks the return of a legendary franchise with new mechanics but a classic approach aimed entirely at the competitive environment. This move worked out well but SNK's game is somewhat lacking in other aspects such as game modes and options for casual gamers. Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves is a solid fighting game that we will see in all the tournaments but the rest of the package is somewhat sloppy. The bonus is that we can play with Cristiano Ronaldo, who to everyone's surprise, is a powerful and well-designed fighter.

FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is the game fans of the franchise have always asked for, delivering phenomenal graphics and soundtrack along with a diverse roster, despite slipping a bit when it comes to its single-player modes. The REV system is the cherry on top, blending offensive and defensive mechanics in a harmony that few modern fighting games have managed to achieve, making the new entry in the Fatal Fury franchise one of the most fun and deep fighting games in recent years.
