How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Lara’s last three adventures from Core Design play differently enough from the first trilogy that serious fans will want to check them out. However, with inconsistent visual and mechanical upgrades, and a higher overall difficulty, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is not a good jumping-in point for newcomers.”

“It's worth playing not only for nostalgic fans of the series, but also for genre enthusiasts who might have missed it for some reason. The other two games are more of a historical curiosity and will mostly appeal to those who have fond memories of them from their childhood or adolescence.”

“Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is an odd release in that only one of its three games can be considered a genuine classic. Yet despite this, it's still a collection we'd tentatively recommend checking out if only to appreciate how such an iconic video game series was almost completely derailed. The remastered visual upgrades, particularly in the fourth and fifth entries, don't always work, but the addition of 60fps performance alongside the retro aesthetics is very welcome indeed. If you're a fan of Tomb Raider or enjoy revisiting flawed curios from days gone by, this might be worth looking into, but this isn't essential like Aspyr's previous Tomb Raider collection.”

“With this new trilogy, the entire Tomb Raider saga is now fully playable in one complete collection. However, the janky camera and clunky controls still take away from the experience a bit.”

“Tomb Raider Remastered VI-V-VI is an extension of the excellent work Aspyr has done in adding some modern shine to the games of yesteryear. Once an absolute powerhouse, Tomb Raider belongs in the pantheon of all-time video game franchises, and these faithful remasters only add to its legacy. The games themselves play rather like dusty relics that Lara might uncover in some dank old tomb. The lack of direction, excruciatingly slow pacing and frustrating gameplay loops are truly products of their time and feel entirely foreign when viewed strictly through a modern lens. But these games, and the Tomb Raider franchise overall, makes up an important part of gaming’s history, and these remasters now undoubtedly offer the best way to experience Lara’s adventures.”

“While nostalgia-hounds may relish a chance to revisit their younger years, weak support for modern controls undermine its playability”

“It's hard to imagine anyone buying Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered because they like the games themselves, as no amount of visual polishing can save this trio of decent to mediocre, and mediocre to awful action-adventures. That been said, if you are into the collecting side of the hobby, and especially if a fan of all things Lara Croft, Aspyr's creation definitely has a place on your shelve.”

“A mandatory purchase, even only for the first two titles”

“With another generous set of remasters, we finally have the complete inaugural generation of a Playstation icon. The ports aren't perfect, but a generous selection of modern options balance out the imperfections of Tomb Raider: Last Revelation and its sequel Chronicles. Having The Angel Of Darkness in a good enough state to revisit might be worth the price alone.”

“The work done by Aspyr for the old Tomb Raiders is impeccable. The only downside is that, as they advanced in technical aspects, they ended up with the less interesting titles from the first wave of the franchise, which is not their fault, but rather a result of the original design of these games. For those who are true Tomb Raider fans and have the patience for the controls of these games, it’s still an unmissable trilogy to relive the nostalgia, even though they are not as good as the first three.”

“With Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, three more classics from video game history have been given an attractive face-lift. The graphical implementation scores well and the modern controls make it easier for us to plunge into Lara's adventurer once again. However, if you want to play old-school, you can also opt for the tank controls and graphics of the original. Whether you're an experienced adventurer or a budding archaeologist, the remastered version is highly recommended to everyone, especially because of the unbelievably fantastic locations and the dense atmosphere with its unique selling point. Nevertheless, you have to get used to the somewhat fiddly controls and dusty gameplay. From today's perspective, the typical macho slogans from the 2000s are of course a little too much of a good thing and Angel of Darkness is not really convincing in the remastered version either.”
