How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Life is Strange: Reunion is fanfiction for the army of franchise fans who dreamed of Max and Chloe reuniting. The result is a sweet story with contrived events.

Good fan service and a successful attempt to bring back beloved characters. Perfect for those looking for a nostalgic experience. But hopefully this game really becomes the final point in the Life is Strange saga.

Life is Strange: Reunion is a game that relies primarily on nostalgia and the strong bond between the series’ two iconic characters. In these moments, it can be very powerful and offer an emotionally resonant experience that fans will appreciate. At the same time, however, it’s clear that it doesn’t fully realize the potential of its world. Weak supporting characters, limited consequences of choices, and an uneven pace prevent it from being a fully-fledged, complex return to the series. The question therefore remains open: Is this a sincere return to its roots, or rather a safe product that relies mainly on emotion and nostalgia?

The final chapter in Max and Chloe’s saga ended up being... just fine. The gameplay largely sticks to the familiar formula established by its predecessors, for better or worse. Still, if you’re on board with the direction Deck Nine has taken the series, chances are you’ll find plenty to enjoy in Reunion, provided you don’t run into the same technical and graphical issues I experienced on the PS5.

It's almost as if Deck Nine gave us two very good games in one release . Quite a feat!

With one last crazy adventure, Max and Chloe's saga comes to a satisfying conclusion, one that respects long-term fans and honors the franchise's legacy.

I think it should have been built up better, and we should have been given more time in the world and with the characters. Maybe then the payoff would have felt worth it, and I would have cared more about the outcome. Still, if you’re a fan of Max and Chloe like I am, and want to see what becomes of them, I recommend picking up this game. It will at least give you some really wholesome interactions between them, and you’ll get to see the conclusion to a decades-long story that was more than overdue.

Reunion delivers an adventure worthy of what Max and Chloe represent in the Life is Strange franchise. Despite them being placed in a completely different setting and context, Deck Nine managed to maintain the essence of the bond between the two characters. While trying to prevent a tragedy from happening, they find themselves entangled in a narrative that explores the mysteries and conflicts within the city of Lakeport. The plot may fall short in a few minor aspects, but it hits the mark on what can be considered the most relevant points.

Life is Strange: Reunion is, surprisingly enough, the conclusion the series needed. With a return to the classic gameplay of the first title, it also offers fans a reunion they’ll never forget. Although it may seem forced at first, it ultimately proves justified through moving character dynamics and a captivating investigative storyline.

Life is Strange: Reunion may be predictable, but it’s an exceptionally engaging interactive adventure that brings Max’s story to a close. If you’re a fan of the series, you owe it to yourself to see how this young photographer’s journey ends. If you’re new, you’re in for around ten hours of top-tier voice acting, beautiful music, and a story you can shape and reshape until you reach your own happy, or bittersweet, ending.

There is stuff to love about Life Is Strange: Reunion. Max and Chloe's interactions are heartwarming, and Deck Nine seems to have nailed player agency, as I was genuinely shocked by the massive consequences some of the decisions I made had. But all the goodwill gets bogged down by an overtly ambitious story that doesn't get close to sticking the landing, and a general feeling that bringing back Chloe was a corporate mandate to see if Square Enix could sell a few more copies of Life Is Strange before plunging the franchise into obscurity.

Life is Strange: Reunion gives Max and Chloe the perfect send-off, with an ending that I’m still thinking about now. If this is the last time we see the pair (or the series in general), it’s a satisfying conclusion.
