How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Creator reviews (2 tracked) | – | 91 | 1 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 89% | 83 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 83 | 9 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 4 |

“Aside from some problematic resource balancing and some unavoidable repetition, Hand of Fate is a clever game of risks and rewards that is well worth getting dealt into.”

“Hand of Fate is a rollicking good time that can be completed in under 20 hours.”

“At the end of the day, Hand of Fate is a solid time waster because of it's sheer randomness offered by the decks you use. The more you play, the more cards you unlock, the more random the game becomes.”

“Hand of Fate comes so close to being something really special, an unexpected concoction of genres and ideas that meshes together superbly to create a really fun experience that's both involving and rewarding, at least in short bursts. But, unfortunately, its potential is cut short by a lack of options and awkward third-person game segments that should really know better.”

“Hand of Fate is not easy to recommend to everyone, due to its uniqueness. However the interesting hybrid of genres is quite original and if you take a look at it, maybe you will find a hidden treasure for your game library. ”

“With a rough play time of 11 hours for the full story mode and an endless mode that can last even longer, for 20 bucks it's a pretty great deal for adventure fans and RPG players. I highly suggest picking Hand of Fate up.”

“Hand of Fate is original, complex and sometimes difficult enough - currently one of the more interesting ideas and an extremely interesting experiment, combining several genres.”

“Hand of Fate blends various elements of role-playing games and card games into a single, satisfying romp.”

“A good idea, which comes out as a bore due to repetition. Could further development improve this game further?”

“These gripes are incredibly minor though when you evaluate the rest of the game. Defiant has done a fantastic job of marrying together two very different flavours of game, presenting it a stylish package that feels one part adventure book, one part action brawler. The potential for expansions and sequels further down the line is immediately apparent so, hopefully, this won't be the last time we're dealt into Hand of Fate.”

“Brilliant decision making, horrible brawling. Hand of Fate fails to hit a straight flush like it hopes.”

“Occasionally suffers from a bit of slowdown but otherwise Hands of Fate is a highly polished and idiosyncratic joy. [Apr 2015, p.60]”
