How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 81 | 6 |
| Creator reviews (1 tracked) | – | 85 | 0 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 95% | 90 | 941 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 87 | 3 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 95% | 89 | 7 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.2, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 1,916 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“A fast, brutal and demanding beat'em up that is Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, proves that taking a few ideas from old games, expanding them and making them look and sound modern can give an excellent result. Basic gameplay mode is accompanied by two more, that provide many hours of fun - either alone or with company (using one console or a network).”

“Overall I'm not just impressed with the game as it's presented, but I'm also impressed knowing that one guy did pretty much all of it. That blows me away as I'm sure it will do to you too when you get a true feeling of the style, the story, the over-the-top action and replayability that lies beyond the opening menu.”

“The standout moments make the monotony that much more worth enduring.”

“A brilliantly executed, whirling dervish of a game that all but demands to be ripped open and played to death. Grab your kitty-cat, gas up your chainsaw-arm and sharpen your blades. It's gonna be a bloodbath.”

“Dishwasher: Vampire Smile has more than enough content for its cost, absolutely amazing gameplay, and some impressive visuals. The plot is completely irrelevant to the experience, but it's certainly not bad. If players want a fast paced action game with a surprising amount of depth, Dishwasher 2 is certainly worth checking out.”

“A rollickingly gory ride, packing with blood, style and content. If only it built on its foundations, rather than pounding us with the same repetitive gameplay throughout, this would be a must-have.”

“The level design leaves something to be desired, but with so much else going for it, it is easy to overlook. If you enjoy action games, and don't mind seeing pints of blood splashed across the screen, this game is a must have.”

“The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is a big surprise and not just because there's a music game reference out of nowhere or an unexpected nod to ancient text-based adventure games. This is a very nicely put-together package of quality content with plenty to differentiate itself from other XBLA offerings. ”

“Every aspect of this game is a pleasure. You have a campaign mode and you can play lots of arcade levels to compete with friends all over the world. A casual game mustn't always be colorful, sometimes you need just three colors, in this case black, white and bloody red.”

“Even with its few faults, this title serves as a shining example of its genre, and I wish game companies would make more of this type of game.”

“Vampire Smile simply reasserts Ska Studios' placement on the top-tier rung of Xbox Arcade developers. [May 2011, p.80]”

“The unremitting bleakness has a certain stylistic charm, but such is the relentlessness of it all, Vampire Smile is too intense to digest for more than a few levels at a time. It's an-all-you-can eat banquet at gunpoint.”
