How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

A.I.L.A is a game full of extremes. On the one hand, it impresses with its visuals, great level design, and quite enjoyable puzzles. On the other hand, the plot is a complete disappointment. Despite its great potential, it has been poorly executed, and all elements related to combat are simply terrible. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this game's problems.

A.I.L.A comes across as an interesting experiment with its concept. However, the authors clearly could not handle their own ambitions and inexperience. As a result, the gameplay was completely botched, and the endings turned out to be banal, despite an engaging story.

A.I.L.A. is an ambitious psychological horror game with a clear vision and a powerful theme. It can unsettle you, make you think, and, at its best, offer a truly unsettling yet compelling experience. However, the slower pace and the need for patience with its gradual progression may not be for everyone. It’s an unconventional horror film that appeals more to the mind than to reflexes.

Pulsatrix Studios' production is one of the most ambitious and well-executed Brazilian projects within the first-person horror genre, offering a varied, creative, and distinctive experience with five completely different scenarios, each exploring a distinct type of fear, atmosphere, and gameplay. It's a package that truly stands out.

With one of the most interesting premises ever created for a horror game, the developers of A.I.L.A. managed to deliver an immersive, terrifying, and highly entertaining experience, making it one of the most impactful horror titles of 2025.

A.I.L.A. is a game that has potential but fails with the follow-through. The idea of AI generating experiences meant to terrify you while also affecting you outside of the game still works. The games that represent different horror experiences do a good job of taking something familiar and making it its own. While the puzzles are fine, the combat drags down everything greatly, and the pacing means that the whole game becomes an unenjoyable roller coaster ride. There's a chance for improvement with patches, but at the moment, you'll want to wait and see if things get better before diving in.

A.I.L.A is a game of two halves. The first promises an intriguing and mind-bending narrative with gameplay experiences pulling from various inspirations for an exciting, evolving horror experience. The second unfortunately drops much of what makes the game feel unique and special, with a dampened finale and some overly drawn out, familiar experiences. Despite this, it still shines with the glow of an enigmatic A.I machine ready to take the world by storm, even with some technical hiccups.

It’s not the noticeable cracks that really took the wind out of A.I.L.A’s sails; it was the final two scenarios that took the game down a peg. Some dodgy combat and lack of polish can be tolerated, but the last few sections that become dull and tedious can’t be as easily forgiven. The overall story has some interesting ideas and has some great levels in the first half of the game that do build well, which means you can get something from A.I.L.A. It is just a shame the last sections run out of steam.

This psychological horror will not only scare you, but it can also really mess with your mind and raise questions about the (un)safety of artificial intelligence.

A.I.L.A is ultimately a typical genre title, a standard low-budget horror game that, despite offering an interesting concept and a few original touches, doesn’t bring much new as a whole. Still, it’s sure to entertain fans who don’t have high expectations and deliver exactly what they’re looking for.

Ultimately, A.I.L.A is an ambitious project that succeeds in many areas, particularly in building psychological tension and creating an atmospheric soundscape. The premise of the adaptive AI and the moments of subtle unease are undoubtedly the game's core, delivering memorable experiences. On the other hand, technical flaws and combat mechanics limit the game's potential, making certain segments repetitive and diminishing the overall impact of the experience. It is, therefore, a title worth playing for those seeking psychological horror and perception-challenging puzzles, though it also requires patience to deal with its execution issues.

If you are looking for a decent horror game, then it is worth picking up A.I.L.A. If you are looking for a satisfying one that rivals The Dark Pictures or Until Dawn, then you might want to look elsewhere. At the end of the day, it just depends on what you are looking for. Hopefully, they will fix more of the bugs in the game, add difficulty settings, and update the visuals in future patches to make the game more accessible to everyday gamers.
