How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 92% | 86 | 2 |

“Clock Tower is one of those games where I’m not sure I really liked it much, but I’m glad I played it. I’m not even talking from a historical perspective. Yeah, it’s an important game, but it’s also a very unique one. An SNES game with such a dark presentation and such heavy atmosphere isn’t all that common, and Clock Tower does an impressive job of it. I just wish it was less of a chore to play.”

“Clock Tower: Rewind provides an effectively creepy tale, especially if you're a fan of 16-bit adventure gaming, throwback puzzle solving, or…David Argento? This "rewind," however, would need to be more of a "remake" to appeal to most modern gamers.”

“Clock Tower: Rewind is an odd game that we feel comfortable recommending to survival horror enthusiasts who wish to experience absolutely everything the genre has to offer. Its visuals and gameplay are undeniably archaic, but there's nevertheless something quaint about its combat-free, point-and-click mechanics. The short experience is elevated greatly by the added extras included for this new release, and we'd fully recommend perusing all of it to help give context and aid appreciation of this pre-RE horror game. Not a must-play re-release, then, but one we would urge horror fans to experience at least once.”

“Clock Tower undoubtedly deserves its place among the legends of video games, and we highly recommend that anyone even vaguely interested experience this old gem firsthand. While the port could have perhaps offered more after so many years since the initial release, when an artistic direction and gameplay concept are flawless, it's hard to improve without compromising the original. Rewind now provides the first official way to get lost in the corridors of the Barrows mansion.”

“There’s no doubt that people who played the original in its day may love a chance to look back, but it’s pretty rough”

“If you're a fan of the horror and survival genre, this game is a real treat, with relentless chases and an enemy as cruel as Pyramid Head himself. In addition, the game has 8 different endings, which considerably increases the game's lifespan, and a wide range of extra content that is really good, such as the interviews with the director, which I really enjoyed.”

“Clock Tower: Rewind features some QoL features but is mostly the same game it was in 1995. That is far from a bad thing however thanks to how atmospheric and tense it is throughout multiple runs.”

“A fantastic piece of horror game and video game history, with crisp visuals and smooth gameplay. Clock Tower: Rewind is a treat to experience, even though its old-timey inconveniences may make it hard for those used to how modern games handle.”

“Despite shortcomings, Clock Tower: Rewind is the definitive way to play this deeply important horror game.”

“Clock Tower: Rewind is a deeply interesting curiosity. It's one of the origins of the horror games that would lead to Resident Evils and Silent Hills, and it's an early attempt to convey the idea of a weak and helpless protagonist facing a stalking evil. It all happened on the SNES. It's an incredibly noteworthy experience if you're invested in the history of game genres, and it's wonderful to have it available with an official translation. However, as a game, it hasn't aged particularly well, and you need a good amount of patience to put up with its foibles to see its strengths.”

“Clock Tower: Rewind is a cornerstone of the survival horror genre and it's awesome that it's finally been localized for Western audiences. The game stands out for its haunting atmosphere, and amazing attention to detail, making the characters and mansion feel alive.”
