How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Indeed, in my humble opinion, AC Mirage is a good candidate for one of the worst installments of Ubisoft's Assassin's series. The whole thing is rather embarrassing, disappointing, and synthetic in a bad way; forced. However, I must praise the creators for a quite successful combination of old and new gameplay formulas.”

“Assassin's Creed: Mirage is a really interesting project. It's a smaller installment of the series, which should with its mechanical solutions satisfy the oldest fans, and at the same time be a nice refresher for newcomers to the series. Unfortunately, the storyline is not one of the strongest points of the production, giving the impression of being written in an offhand manner, even though the whole thing is a kind of blink of an eye for those who remember the first one. At the end of the day, although I am aware of the existence of better (and worse) games in the series, I had a great time with Mirage and if I ever play it again, I will do it with pleasure.”

“The new Assassin's Creed game is nothing more than a mirage of a greatness long gone. The series is in need of a constant change, and this game feels more like an aimless stumble.”

“The return to the franchise's roots has been a success for the developers. They returned the old mechanics, which is insufficient for a perfect game. Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Mirage lacks coherent direction and a quality script. After the previous long episodes, however, this is a pretty enjoyable game for a weekend.”

“Assassin's Creed's return to the series' roots was more or less successful. There's a lack of good story here, and it doesn't offer a lot of fresh ideas, but as a transition between the last trilogy and the next big game, Mirage is solid entertainment for fans old and new.”

“Mirage ought to have been more than the dim illusion of where the series has already traveled.”

“Assassin’s Creed Mirage achieved what it wanted: to appeal to the nostalgia of the first title in the franchise. Linearity, focus on stealth, a more closed map and a shorter campaign, all refer to the first game. However, just like back in 2007, it lacked more care and polish. The experience will certainly please those who miss the old vibe of the franchise, but it may not be a very memorable experience.”

“Assassin's Creed Mirage is a solid entry in the Assassin's Creed series that heavily relies on nostalgia. In some ways, it even succeeded. I had a blast with the stealth mechanics and once again felt like I was returning to the classics. But that wasn’t enough. Incomplete optimization, the whiff of Valhalla, and a compromise rather than a return to the original versions, combined with unremarkable graphics, left me disappointed. I also didn’t quite understand Assassin’s Focus. Although there will definitely be more positives than negatives in the end, Basim’s adventure can’t be rated higher than slightly above average, even though this is the most affordable Assassin’s Creed game in years.”

“The threadbare narrative is punctuated by a disconnected mission structure that stalls for time. Full-frontal combat is realistically clunky to inspire sneaky tactics, though it might not impress fans of the RPG-style, combat driven AC titles. This back-to-basics approach truly captures the soul of an Assassin's Creed game and I really hope Ubisoft doesn't give up on this route. Despite its flaws, running around the rooftops in Mirage with my hidden blade out for blood remains just as fun as it was before, proving that the original AC formula works. Ubisoft need only breathe new life into it.”

“Despite its problems, Assassin’s Creed Mirage genuinely feels like a love letter to the games in the series that kickstarted its legacy.”

“Assassin’s Creed: Mirage has some good features that fans should appreciate, but ultimately even they will become tired with extremely dull gameplay. We should demand more from this series. This kind of pseudo-return to the roots is not enough.”

“This is one of the few games that makes me realize that I don’t need over the top graphics or an Excel sheet’s worth of mechanics to experience something fun. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the experience I've wanted for the last six years.”
