How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 57 | 37 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 65% | 64 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 81% | 74 | 639 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Game of Thrones Kingsroad feels like it was made with smartphones in mind in the most obvious ways, from its monetisation to its UI and even its button mashing gameplay. Aside from getting to see some landmarks from the HBO show, there is little to enjoy here.”

“Game of Thrones: Kingsroad attempts to respect its source material, imbuing its impressively recreated map of Westeros with grand architecture and appropriately grim side quests. Unfortunately, behind every interesting or well-thought-out idea is a frustrating pay wall, unsightly NPC animation, or grindy roadblock that halts any momentum you’ve worked up, and the passable combat that acts as the foundation of this action-RPG isn’t deep enough to make vaulting those hurdles much fun on its own. There’s plenty to get up to in this intricate reimagining of the TV show’s world, but ultimately, when you play the Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, you pay or you die.”

“Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is a promising free-to-play open-world action RPG that still needs more work before its potential is fully realized. The game has a fun and satisfying combat system and an interesting story, but Game of Thrones: Kingsroad's monetization practices and progression-slowing Momentum walls hold back what could be one of 2025's hidden gems.”

“Annoying mobile mechanics and omnipresent microtransactions leave a solid role-playing game no room to breathe.”

“Game of Thrones: Kingsroad does a good job of recreating the world beloved by many, and letting us live in it. But the microtransactions really make it feel like Netmarble doesn’t respect the players' time.”

“Except for the possibility of wandering around Westeros and meeting some prominent personalities of the continent, Game of Thrones Kingsroad is a title with mediocre gameplay and a not very virtuous monetization system, which pushes the player to spend more and more in order to advance and obtain advantages that are otherwise inaccessible. Unless you are a die-hard fan of the series, there are very few reasons to even try the production signed by NetMarble, given that the market is full of much more valid alternatives.”

“Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an excellent free-to-play action RPG for iOS and Android, capable of bringing the locations, characters, and music of the TV series to our smartphone screens, thanks to a fairly expansive open world structure that is likely to grow even further over time. However, when it comes to PC the game suffers due to some inevitable limitations, as well as a monetization system that eventually becomes more aggressive, gating progression behind the usual paywalls.”
