How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“While these puzzles feel fussed-over, with difficulty that ramps up steadily and organically, the combat comes off like a clunky, lifeless afterthought.”

“It's an echo of the past, a reminder of the good and the bad. If you have fond memories of The Sands of Time or The Two Thrones, hold onto them. Go back and play those games. Relish the original's elegance and the third game's improved pacing and combat -- The Forgotten Sands will only remind you that they are better games.”

“The Forgotten Sands more than captures the old, classic Sands of Time magic, so hats off to Ubisoft for a job well done.”

“The Forgotten Sands won't win any awards this year, but for fans of the series it's a notable addition.”

“Story-wise, you'll be hooked enough that you'll want to finish Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, but it's the always engaging gameplay that's king here.”

“We have the original Prince driving the story and it is always good to hear his voice. However, the combat has seen better days, and graphics are kind of hit and miss at times. Still, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is enjoyable and fans of this series will enjoy it.”

“All in all I don't hate The Forgotten Sands, I just feel like this game was put out to capitalize on the release of the movie. I know that Ubisoft said the game was in the making before they launched the 2008 PoP, but I don't buy it.”

“The excellent platforming still remains, but this Prince seems to have lost a little of himself in coming back to his roots.”

“For all the unique thrills and spectacle the series still delivers, Forgotten Sands never quite reaches the dizzying heights you want it to. [July 2010, p.78]”

“What we get here feels like a place-holder, a nostalgic diversion that exists so there's product on the shelves to coincide with the movie, rather than something driven by a flash of inspiration as to where the series could go next.”

“The prince's high-flying adventure is marred by camera issues and weak combat, but the excellent platforming is still loads of fun.”

“A game that doesn't aim to bring anything new to the table, and for the most part provides a decent experience.”
