How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Slots & Daggers is a really good time. The runs are quick, and after each one, I catch myself thinking, “If I just had that one item, I could have done better.” Progression feels a little uneven since new items only unlock after clearing a level, but the chips I earn let me buy mods that help balance things out. While there’s some flexibility in run builds, it doesn’t quite reach the depth of Balatro and its jokers. All that said, it's the perfect game to unwind after a long day at work.”

“Another roguelike variation on gambling, in this case using a slot machine, that offers up interesting play but ultimately feels ruled by both simplicity and RNG too often to be more consistent fun”

“Slots & Daggers, in short, comes out of nowhere and, before tiring or becoming difficult for the sake of being difficult, takes you to the end credits, with an elegance made of simple and elegant mechanics, a running time of just under 8 hours, and a lot of attention to flow and game feel, words that every development studio should print and place in front of the office door.”

“Slots & Daggers is a highly experimental, gorgeously stylised arcade distraction, but as a robust roguelite, it struggles to find its footing. The over reliance on pure slot randomness strips away the satisfying tactical agency that makes the genre so addictive in the first place, leaving you with a game that is fun for a quick, spin on a lazy Sunday afternoon, but lacks the depth to keep you hooked for the long haul.”

“Slots & Daggers is a very entertaining and fun game that thrives on the one more turn aspect, while also making you think tactically. The story's not the point here, and power up pricing feels a bit hard, but those weaknesses are easy to overly when the gameplay is this satisfying.”

“It’s not a game for players who demand total control or deep narrative storytelling, but for those who enjoy the tension of unpredictable outcomes and clever roguelike systems, this is one of the freshest takes in the genre. Slots & Daggers doesn’t just reimagine dungeon crawling, it turns it into a gamble you’ll want to keep taking.”

“Slots & Daggers is an unexpected surprise. It's a fantastic roguelite that combines chance, tactics, and addiction into a wonderfully fluid whole. The balance between luck and strategy is cleverly struck. Every run feels worthwhile, and every reward earned. The presentation is delightfully spectacular. There are a few minor flaws; the enemies could have used a bit more animation, but that's a minor detail. Ultimately, Slots & Daggers is a perfect snack game: light, fast-paced, yet with enough depth to keep you coming back for another gamble.”

“Slots & Daggers takes a small idea and squeezes a surprising amount of entertainment out of it. It is clever without being exhausting, lucky without feeling mindless, and tactile in all the right ways. If you like roguelites, slot-machine chaos, or buildcrafting that gets to the point fast, this is absolutely worth spinning up.”

“The console launch of Slots & Daggers brings the acclaimed bite-sized roguelike to more players, with those who play on handheld likely benefiting the most. Progress is streamlined with smart design decisions that make it a breeze to play, but in long stretches the game’s luster dulls with repetitive gameplay.”
