How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Dead By Daylight is a fantastic concept that, in practice, needed much more work put into it. I love its 80s horror aesthetic and the occasional match can be thoroughly enjoyable. There are going to have to be a lot more changes for the thing to have any sticking power, however. Should Behavior continue to work on it, I could see Dead By Daylight turning into something I adore. Right now, it’s just not there.”

“Dead by Daylight is a horror multiplayer (4+1) hide-and-seek game with a perfect atmosphere that’s played by a huge number of people, and it truly deserves its popularity. You can find it on many gaming platforms and play cross-platform with friends as survivors or solo as the killer. A minor downside is the game’s poor balance, though the developers are working hard to fix it, as well as the frequent need to spend money on new, relatively expensive DLC. Ultimately, it’s an original AAA title that will give you a real scare, and we highly recommend it.”

“Dead By Daylight has been around for quite while now and has remained a pretty popular game on both PC and console over the years. It’s a straightforward and repetitive online affair that, if you're lucky enough to be matched with the right bunch of randoms or happen to be playing a custom match with friends, can deliver the goods in terms of frights and tension from time to time. However, it has also always been a pretty clunky affair, a fact which is amplified further here by the noticeable graphical downgrade, laggy menus and the exclusion of a bunch of DLC that we really feel should have been included for the steep asking price.”

“The game has its flaws and problems and it could have done with much more variety to it. But the core is amazing. The idea is great. This is really something new and fresh in the horror genre.”

“This is one of the most fun and unique titles I've played in quite some time and although there are some major gripes I have with it, they don't detract enough from the experience to make me hate it. Cliche horror movie multiplayer at its finest.”

“Conceptually I'm a big fan of asymmetric multiplayer, and am always eager to see how another team has tried to tackle this tricky formula...”

“i]Dead by Daylight[/i] has the groundwork for a great game but stumbles in its execution. It could be so much more with just a little more polish. Hopefully, it will inspire better products of this variety, because the concept contains a bundle of promise. Horror fans will find a lot to love - as long as they keep their expectations low. Nevertheless, for all its sins it is still quite addictive and undeniably fun, at least in the right conditions. It's easy to see how it has amassed a fanbase and warranted a port to the Switch.”

“The asymmetrical multiplayer genre seems to be a real tough nut to crack with each heavy hitter coming out swinging, only to be plagued by nuances that trip up the experience and expose debilitating cracks in the mechanics. Unfortunately, it seems that Dead by Daylight suffers much the same fate. It’s honestly really good fun, but the more you play the more its issues rear their head and become points of ire.”

“I did have fun playing Dead by Daylight as it does have some great moments, but there are so many issues making it hard to reach those.”

“Dead by Daylight has evolved into an unrivalled asymmetrical competitive multiplayer game, and one of the best horror games around.”

“It’s not a taxing game by any means, but the asynchronous flow and bold unusual will rub against common multiplayer mindset.”
