How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

It’s sad because I’d have actually loved for this game to be enjoyable. The idea of an Umbrella training simulator where agents are battling against each other isn’t the worst idea for a spin-off I’ve heard, in fact, the concept is appealing to me. Unfortunately, the execution is bereft of life and sloppier than the contents of Boris Johnson’s diaper.

Any potential for excitement is squandered by the fact that the zombies you encounter are typically unthreatening.

At the end of the day, Umbrella Corps was a game that nobody asked for. It’s bad outweighs the good and because few people are playing, has longer wait times than a two day old competitive online shooter should.

Umbrella Corps is a brain-dead mess of good ideas gone wrong. It partially hides its flaws underneath a veneer of pretty graphics and promising gameplay concepts, but it can't hold up under its own weight in execution. Patches may iron out some of our grievances, but conflicting mechanics, dumb level design choices, balancing issues, technical problems, and shallow content plague this shambling title to the core, ensuring a quick burial with single-player missions that are a mere afterthought. This isn't just a bad Resident Evil game, but a disappointing multiplayer shooter; a spin-off that feels like little more than a lazy cash grab.

How bad does a game have to be to lose “Resident Evil” from the title?

What we have is fast and fun, but limited. If the core elements here don’t keep players entertained, there isn’t much to bring them back later aside from some free DLC levels coming in the near future. There is the sense that this was a quick and dirty project, created for who knows what reason, but here it is, and it’s only recommended for players extremely curious.

Capcom's oddest Resident Evil spin-off yet is also its scrappiest, with uneven execution obscuring an otherwise entertaining online shooter.

Umbrella Corps is a sloppy competitive shooter with a score of issues that overshadow its redeeming qualities.

Just, unenjoyable. A side project that should never have been attempted.

There’s not much else to say, Umbrella Corps is a downright awful dagger in the hearts of Resident Evil fans. We can only hope that, with one final nail in the coffin, Capcom will bury this tragic era and leave it dead forever.
