How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Created by a one-person team based out of Madrid, Megaton Rainfall is, at the very least, a technical marvel. It's very much comparable to No Man's Sky; an indie hit that wows with its sheer scale and the breadth of its ambition. But much like Hello Games' oft-maligned space explorer, this superhero simulator struggles to maintain the impressive impact of its first hour, or live up to the lofty heights of those dangerously high ambitions.”

“In the end, Megaton Rainfall exceeded all my expectations, while a few more options would be appreciated for controllers, the gameplay itself is solid and gives plenty of replay value. Even getting it for the ability to fly like a superhero in VR is a solid reason.”

“Megaton Rainfall is an incredible accomplishment, but not one that we particularly liked to play. The sense of scale is outstanding, and it's even more impressive with PlayStation VR, but the cumbersome combat grates almost as badly as its cringe-inducing storyline. It would appear that even being a literal god isn't all it's cracked up to be.”

“The idea of a superhero FPS sounds great on paper, but an intriguing story and a cool concept cannot save Megaton Rainfall from being a subpar action shooter; one that fails to realise the potential of the genre.”

“Megaton Rainfall is a game at odds with itself. It seems like it was built to be a VR title about being a superhero, but it lacks the hardware support on the PC to make that a reality. It tries to make you a more responsible superhero when it comes to protecting innocent lives, but the controls and lack of a good targeting system make it difficult to follow through. The game provides an open universe to explore but very few things to actually check out. In the end, Megaton Rainfall is a curiosity, and although it isn't a must-have title, it could be worth a look if the price is right.”

“Megaton Rainfall pulls off some feats and squanders others, but one's thing's for sure: there's no other superhero game like it.”

“Megaton Rainfall is an interesting title, it hands the player overpowered abilities and a huge sandbox to play in but forces the player to restrain themselves by making collateral damage the key to success or failure. I had hours of fun exploring the universe, checking out landmarks and discovering secrets out in the galaxy between fighting off waves of alien enemies. Unfortunately I have to mark Megaton Rainfall down for its mission-breaking bugs, however this title is a refreshing experience and a fun one at that. I recommend just taking some time to sit quietly and absorb the experience that is Megaton Rainfall.”

“Megaton Rainfall is a game of incredible scale and there aren't many titles that let you go off exploring a large universe quite like this, when you aren't blasting alien invaders out of the sky. In VR it is quite a spectacle, though that can't shield it from the fact that it's quite a basic shooting gallery experience whether on TV or in VR. Megaton Rainfall is very much worth checking out if you have VR, but even without that side of things you have a decent enough superhero simulator.”

“Megaton Rainfall is the first video game that genuinely made me feel like Superman. It just has a few rough edges to work out.”

“What you may not know is that Megaton Rainfall was created by just one person, Alfonso del Cerro, over a five year span. This part is very true including the engine. So just take that in for a minute. One dream…one person and the result is one of the best super hero games to ever grace our presence.”

“Megaton Rainfall is an interesting, exciting and impressive indie game but it's repetitive gameplay and low polygon graphics really hurt it when compared to other virtual reality titles.”

“Overall, Megaton Rainfall is a very enjoyable title from a clearly talented developer”
