How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 76 | 4 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 88% | 82 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 87 | 8 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 95% | 89 | 10 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Syberia for Nintendo Switch is the best console console version of the cult adventure game at the moment - thanks to various settings, great touch controls and original graphics and content from the PC version. Despite some problems, the game is very addictive with its story, bright characters and unique atmosphere.”

“Syberia on the Nintendo Switch is a reasonable yet inconsistent port of an enchanting genre classic. This is an absorbing, intricate story filled with melancholy, eccentric characters and mystery demands and deserves attention, even if the game shows its age technically in some places and demonstrates a lack of care in the porting process in others. For fans of the genre, or those willing to dive in and forgive some inconsistencies, there's an endearing and worthwhile adventure here.”

“Beautiful? Stunning? Breathtaking? All words that can safely be used when describing Syberia's graphics. The level of detail is simply immense.”

“Syberia is absolutely of its time, offering a point-and-click adventure that now seems outdated in almost every aspect. With aging character models, an archaic and ugly UI and whole townships blatantly designed to facilitate a few oddball puzzles, it’s unlikely to win over many new fans in 2025. That said, it’s not all bad, the pre-rendered environments still look pretty decent, and there’s a few moments so ridiculous that you’ll likely get a laugh or two. Perhaps like the clockwork automatons in the Voralberg factory, Syberia is a product of a bygone era, but not without significance to those curious about days gone by.”

“The adventure genre has two sides. The first is the fun that derives from melting your mind to find solutions to problems. The second one, is exactly what it says on the box: adventure! Syberia is definitely not a point-and-click aimed at those who want to test their puzzle-solving skills - far from it. Syberia is an emotive, deeply immersive journey, with a fantastic lead; a lead whose development throughout this magical quest is undoubtedly a big part of the game's charm. Don't be discouraged by its age. Try it right now - just be sure to play the PC original, or a decent port that doesn't mar the experience.”

“There are no guns, fights or scary scenes, just a good adventure with some engrossing puzzles. For me, it was best played in handheld mode on the Switch, not that it was bad in any way when docked, but it just felt better as a mobile game. I am interested in seeing where Kate goes next, which makes this great, as both the sequels are also already on Switch as well.”

“Aside from a few little rough spots, Syberia is an adventure-game tour de force, with an engrossing story, a truly imaginative gameworld, and stunning visuals.”

“Overall, the game puzzles are too easy, which makes the game boring at times.”

“One of the best adventure games I've ever played. The near-perfectly crafted combination of story, gameplay, graphics and audio makes it utterly enchanting.”

“If you appreciate well-crafted stories over carnage, it's an adventure that genre fans won't want to miss. [Sept 2002, p.84]”

“Combining a haunting story with astounding visuals and sound, Syberia is the best adventure game since "The Longest Journey."”

“It is really hard for a run-of-the-mill writer like me to do justice to Syberia in describing it. Ultimately all I can tell you is this: Play it yourself! It is not likely you will be disappointed.”
