How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“While there are some disappointments and archaic clunkiness, Dead Rising 4 is a great time that makes smart improvements over Dead Rising 3. The comedic beats are surprisingly well executed, especially early on in the campaign, and while the conclusion may be hugely disappointing to some, I can’t fault the series its boldness.”

“Dead Rising 4 is a defanged sequel unlikely to satisfy fans of the series or appeal to new ones.”

“If you have the bandwidth or are able to import Dead Rising 4, it’s well worth the hassle. Otherwise you’re better off waiting until it’s cheaper or available offline.”

“A lukewarm experience takes creativity out of Dead Rising 4 in favor of streamlined game mechanics and story heavy sequences. Bashing zombies is still fun, but only for a couple of minutes.”

“While I found myself frustrated at points few and far between, I enjoyed my time with Dead Rising 4. It’s a charming, fun romp through a zombie wasteland who sets itself apart from other zombie stories with a sense of humor while still paying homage to those that came before it. If you’re looking for a merry time this holiday season, don’t be caught dead not checking out this Christmas slay ride, as Frank West would probably say.”

“It’s a shame that the game doesn’t live up to the series’ potential. Glitches make games harder to play, weak gameplay ruins game. I’d replay Dead Rising 3 twice instead of Dead Rising 4”

“Dead Rising 4 is an outstanding iteration: the sense of humor, the blood and Frank West make a comeback and give the series a much needed breath of fresh air. If you are a veteran of the franchise, you may dislike some of the changes at first, but as you play it you will appreciate the irreverence that the series is known for.”

“I love the series, and DR4 will satisfy my thirst for yet another entry. It felt good to get back into Frank’s shoes, and the Christmas theme is fantastic. The lack of story co-op is the biggest offender, and I wasn’t a fan of how much the game seems to throw at players. This seems like a perfect example of less could be so much more, but as it stands Dead Rising 4 is a solid entry in the long-running series.”

“Capcom's attempt to revitalize the Dead Rising series, by giving it contemporary Western-style controls and gameplay, strips the title of the rough charm that made previous zombie-killing installments joyous experiences.”

“Dead Rising 4 is filled with over-the-top, creative zombie killing, but the story is formulaic and the open world doesn’t invite exploration.”

“Dead Rising 4 is a great game, it brings an intriguing campaign in a fully realized world filled with places to explore.”

“In the end, Dead Rising 4 is a solid game that is an enjoyable experience for series fans and newcomers. The "use anything, make anything" mechanics that have made zombie-smashing so fun are still intact, and some changes only amplify the experience when dealing with the expansive world. While the story is good on its own, Frank's presence provides a nice balance between silly and serious, and the multiplayer also finds a sweet spot. The title has some issues, but they aren't enough to dampen the sheer fun this game provides. DR4 is a worthy pick-up this holiday season.”
