How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 69 | 22 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 77% | 72 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 45% | 48 | 2 |

“This is not the quality I would expect from a game coming out of Early Access. Sure, the horror mechanics and movement are fine, but the game is far too repetitive in its current state to warrant playing.”

“The Blackout Club is a multiplayer game with a great concept but questionable execution. Acting as a stealth title and boasting a unique premise, The Blackout Club blends core sneaking mechanics with a handful of stock missions that slowly reveal more about the world around you as you play. Held back by some clumsy AI, a repetitive mission loop and a distinct lack of challenge until deep in the experience, The Blackout Club is an experiment worth checking out but unlikely to be something you stick around with for the long haul when the game ironically becomes much more enjoyable.”

“There were enough hidden stories and lore to keep me interested as I went along. Stories of daemons and gods and cults are always fascinating and I could feel the mystery around me as I crept through dark streets and skulked through humming, misty caves. It’s just a shame it was held back by its shallow content and repetitive gameplay.”

“A special & atmospheric co-op horror game currently impaired by lack of long-term incentives.”

“Moments of stealth-flavored enjoyment in The Blackout Club are often overshadowed by the game's unpolished state, with bugs and repetition robbing the game's mysteries with growing frustration. ”

“The Blackout Club is an excellent cooperative stealth game that splashes in a little bit of horror to spice things up. While it is still plagued by some minor bugs, it’s a fantastically tense experience that fans of first person stealth games will enjoy.”

“The Blackout Club brings some interesting ideas, a fun cooperative setting and it mostly dips when it comes to the repetitive style of play.”

“...a celebration of 80's horror nostalgia and has enough intriguing elements to make it worthwhile.”

“Whatever your constitution, The Blackout Club gets a strong recommendation from me. It’s got a tense feel to it, some cultist shenanigans going on, and especially off the back of the latest Stranger Things series, it’s something a bit different in the horror ranks.”

“Impressive heritage and a handful of neat ideas bubble beneath this co-op horror, though they're both ultimately squandered. ”

“The Blackout Club is a strong addition to the co-op horror genre. Enemies and gameplay are really well handled, and playing with friends is a brilliant experience. If the story was a little more in-depth and better paced, this might be considered unmissable. As it is, The Blackout Club is a worthwhile game if not an essential one.”

“Stranger things have happened, but they're rarely as scary or as fun as The Blackout Club, a dynamic co-op adventure that beckons with its bellowing song of hypnosis.”
