How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Greedfall is a game I want to love. On the surface, this semi-open world, action RPG feels like a patchwork of different ideas and concepts, all of which executed acceptably but never quite brilliantly. With elements of The Witcher, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls and The Council, this politically-charged title gets a lot right but it does so in a manner that's not quite as effective as it should be. With a development team of 35 or so people, Greedfall is an impressive AA title but some constant issues with the combat and environment hold this game back from greatness.

GreedFall for PlayStation 5 remains one of the best role-playing games of recent times, but with a much better overall presentation. As for the new expansion - it's something aimed to die-hard fans of the original campaign.

So far, GreedFall is the best attempt of Spiders to make a remarkable RPG. But that does not mean the game is great. Sometimes Greedfall is good, but sometimes just average.

GreedFall slaps together a beautiful map, complex quests, good decision making, an in-depth setting and a really cool storyline with good character building. There are some technical issues and a surprisingly dull beginning, don't let them discourage you!

It is a fine example of what smaller developers like Spiders can offer to complement the other experiences out there. Even with its faults, RPGamers should welcome GreedFall into their personal collections.

GreedFall is Spiders' most ambitious RPG title to date, and it certainly shows. It features a great story and deep lore, with interesting characters and setting. However, it's brought down by its lower production values and janky combat, as well as the occasional technical issue that arose from time to time.

GreedFall is the next Dragon Age or Witcher experience in everything but name. Spiders delivers a fantastic fantasy action-RPG that you do not want to miss.

An indispensable example of a middle-market studio’s ambition excelling beyond many of the biggest companies in understated ways.

Disappointing is the best word to describe GreedFall.

Despite a small development team and limited budget, a lot of thought and effort has gone into designing the interwoven narrative and gameplay elements in GreedFall, with nothing feeling underutilised or overdone.

Greedfall is a frustrating experience: there are some firm foundations to build from and it has all the makings of the next great action-RPG series. But the game lacks depth to really take it to lofty heights where it could knock the very best off their perch.

GreedFall proves that budget studios can still create meaningful single-player RPGs, the complex decisions, interesting setting and good characters outweigh the technical weaknesses for the target audience, and that deserves respect.
