How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

A fun tactics game with a great sense of humour and a unique twist on the alien invasion trope.

Attack of the Earthlings was just a good game to play for one playthrough and be done with it afterward. It is still buggy, straightforward but uninteresting plot, good character models but the turnaround animations are way too slow, the characters are not memorable, visuals common for indie games, and have funny jokes.

It is by no means a masterpiece, but Attack of the Earthlings provides a fun and a solid strategy experience for those who aren't looking for something extremely deep. The levels have a good layout, and there's a wide variety of smart and dumb enemies to keep you invested. Your offensive abilities, from setting up traps to body disposal, are fun, and the humor keeps things lively. It is a short experience that doesn't have much replayability due to the lack of variable difficulty, but you'll still enjoy your time with Attack of the Earthlings.

If you’re really into your XCOM’s and Space Hulk, but find the steep curve of the former and the seriousness of the latter too much, then this is a welcome change. It brings the brightness and colour back to mass-murdering aliens, alongside the wacky, irreverant humour and self-deprecation that the British are so delightful wonderful at.

Acceptable turn-based strategy with hungry aliens and good gameplay...for a while.

Attack of the Earthlings is a humorous, inverted take on the familiar alien invasion story, packaged within a decent turn-based strategy game.

Whilst clunky controls and uninspiring visuals hamper proceedings, Attack of the Earthlings nonetheless offers an intoxicating mix of satisfying strategy, well designed levels and guffaw inducing humour.

Indeed, in an age where titles are designed as sprawling live services, a more focused campaign can help a game to stand out. Fortunately, Attack of the Earthlings has much more in its favour than being a throwback to a simpler age thanks to its cheery tone and novelty. The game is far from revolutionary, but it bears a sense of individuality that many others lack. The greatest disappointment is that the title will likely never reach the audience it deserves.

Attack of The Earthlings is a great turn-based tactics game. Its gameplay, barring that one stage is very well done and it makes you think hard and plan to accomplish your goals. While it lacks any replay value, I enjoyed the time I spent with it and do not regret the experience at all. If you are fine with a somewhat shorter tactical game, buy it now. Otherwise, wait for a small sale.

A genuinely funny, engaging turned based strategy with a great theme. Attack of The Earthlings has a strong core concept, but feel constricted by length. Player options are plentiful, but never required for success. Still, it's unique, well-written, and lovingly crafted. Fans of the genre should find something to love, even if it's 'game over, man' far too quickly.

A funny turn based strategy game for those who are looking for something more brainy and deep than the average.

Attack of the Earthlings has the ingredients to be a unique entry in the turn-based strategy genre, but it’s missing vital elements that would’ve made the gameplay tolerable.
