How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 80 | 7 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 86% | 79 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 70 | 11 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 94% | 89 | 20 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Excellent humor, graphics and funny characters make Chuchel a good game. Of course, the simplicity of puzzles cause slight disappointment, but it is still a positive and very high-quality project.”

“A fun and unusual game which will definitely brighten up your evening.”

“The game is a concentrated burst of lovely design that's short enough to end before its title character, its scene setup, or its sparse interaction can grow stale.”

“The bottom line is that CHUCHEL is not for everyone, but fans of Amanita Design games will definitely enjoy it. During the wacky quest to capture a juicy cherry, you'll feel absurd and maybe a little confused, all compensated with a good dose of fun. However, the somewhat chaotic narrative of the not-quite-engaging story may present an insurmountable obstacle for some players, while keeping others on their toes. For the affordable price tag, perhaps the biggest problem is the actual play time, which hovers around two hours, and that's simply not enough.”

“A truly great experience for those who want to have fun while solving wacky puzzles. Also game design and sound effects are really cute. Chuchel is a love at first sight.”

“Slighter than other Amanita offerings, CHUCHEL whizzes you through an assortment of easy but highly comical sketches, succeeding in its primary aim of making you laugh.”

“Ah, so we’ve reached the point of the verdict. I’ve been handing out a lot of perfect scores lately, you know with Hellblade, Batman: The Enemy Within, Okami, etc., which is not something I do often and I’m a bit saddened that I can’t really give a 10 for CHUCHEL as well.”

“In a world full of issues, CHUCHEL feels like a recomforting hug with its childish and innocent atmosphere. It has various patent problems, however, and doesn't even get close to the level of quality of previous Amanita Design games.”

“Comedy adventure game from the creators of Machinarium, Botanicula and Samorost with funny, but too easy numerous puzzles and challenges. ”

“Every minute of Chuchel’s short playtime is filled with delight and almost every interaction is guaranteed to make you smile. It is a distillation of interactive fun that is the best example of Amanita’s design philosophy so far. Chuchel is the total opposite of the games that dominate contemporary gaming and as such, deserves to be hugely successful. Just check out the trailer above and try to resist the charms of the little dustball of fun.”

“CHUCHEL aims to be a mostly comedic turn for Amanita Design and succeeds due to a winning combination of idiosyncratic aesthetic choices and streamlined point-and-click mechanics.”
