Review sentiment over time

Weekly positive-review rate (green) and review volume (bars). Dashed lines mark significant patches; the amber line is the start of the current scoring window. Hover the dots to see what drove a dip or a jump.

How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

In some respects, The Invincible is simply a work of art. And among others, a great story and 6-8 hours of wandering through one of the most beautifully designed planets in a video game.

The Invincible is a story-driven walking simulator with beautiful graphics, but bugs and some decisions in terms of gameplay unfortunately killed the potential to present an interesting adaptation of literature from Stanislaw Lem.

For a walking simulator, you’d think that Starward Industries would have at least nailed down the walking. Instead, it’s arguably one of the worst parts of The Invincible. Walking sims can be great if they have an interesting story (which this one does, in fairness) but with such laborious, sluggish mechanics to accompany that, this is way more of a chore to get through than it should be.

The Invincible is a true old school science-fiction with an emphasis on science rather than some personal drama. It's a great experience with a perfect sense of style, just beware that the game part is lacking or rather almost non-existent.

Once we stop sharing in Yasna’s discoveries, the storytelling never quite clicks. Apart from a few stiff flashbacks, players simply don’t get to know enough about Yasna’s fellow researchers to get invested in how their fate drives her search for answers. Yasna’s quest feels detached rather than desperate, with all the game’s themes coldly laid out in dialogue choices. The Invincible does remain reasonably engrossing through to the end, but it never recaptures the interactive vigor of its first half, eventually becoming a bout of scientific calculus on autopilot.

The Invincible is a relatively (but appropriately) short sci-fi adventure game set on the desert planet Regis III. The story is inspired by Polish author Stanisław Lem, and its game adaptation is top-notch. You’ll need higher-end hardware to play this game, as its beautiful graphics will demand it. The atmosphere is enhanced by a musical score that adds an even better touch to the overall experience. All in all, I definitely recommend this title from the independent studio Starward Industries to all space game enthusiasts.

While it may not be for everyone, The Invincible is nonetheless a brilliant sci-fi journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Invincible is a walking simulator with superb voice acting, perfect pacing, gorgeous alien scenery, intriguing space mystery, and an excellent soundtrack. Unfortunately, outdated and frustrating traversal mechanics are making the experience worse, but if you love Atompunk and retrofuturism, you should absolutely give this one a try.

The Invincible is a successful experiment in bringing a novel to life via the medium of gaming. With compelling dialogue and meaningful narrative, it’s an adventure in every sense of the word, as you trek across a beautiful planet to uncover its mysteries.

The Invincible is another brick on the wall of slowly turning games into a medium capable of telling stories that are clever, deep and timeless. Even if the game itself is "just" a walking sim.

The Invincible is a great game that more people should play. The storytelling delves into the philosophical at numerous points and it’s a game that will stay with you for a long time to come. It may be a bit frustrating to deal with the slow movement and the lack of actual fast-paced action gameplay but if you’re into slow-burn storytelling, this game will appeal to you.
