How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Blasphemous is a fascinating and intricate game with bias in dark Catholicism that offers a host of enemies, abilities and locations for painstaking research. Well executed bosses with original mechanics and a powerful atmosphere should please fans of the genre, despite some issues with platforming and goals closer to the end of the story.”

“While lacking in sheer variety, what's there is solid. The art style and atmosphere is spectacular, and combat is intense and bloody.”

“Blasphemous is a beautifully crafted Soulslike/Metroidvania action game set in a delightfully unhinged, deliriously gory world filled with well-designed enemies, satisfyingly meaty combat and some truly memorable and grotesque boss battles.”

“Even though its bursting with a strong identity, Blasphemous struggles to find its own footing in a crowded genre. There are glimpses of what could’ve been an amazing game, but much of it its bogged down due to its over reliance on a dull skill system.”

“Blasphemous is a merciless Metroidvania with a satisfying combat, despite the weak platforming, its boss fights are extremely entertaining and the art style is amazing, as it establishes a very engaging setting.”

“Blasphemous is a highly stylized and brutally challenging action platformer set in a world of great religious reverence, may be too difficult for some players, also in terms of the cruelty of the themes”

“From first glance during a Direct there was no question that Blasphemous, visually, was something pretty special...”

“Blasphemous is an admirable piece of art. It does the whole metroidvania thing in a much less tedious way than most indie games do these days, and is bolstered by its distinct flavour and style.”

“Blasphemous is a great addition to the genre and it truly feels like a unique creation able to stand fine on its own without taking too much from other games out there. The world and lore are fantastic and enough to keep anyone with a passing interest engrossed to the very end.”

“Blasphemous might be derivative, but it's one of the best, if not the best Metroid-like I've played this year. Not only is it downright gorgeous, but the gameplay is uniformly excellent and hunting for its many secrets make it a puzzle well worth exploring. ”
