How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The DX is a difference here, making for a more enjoyable game all around. It's had a modest price increase, but still comes in at only $4.99, with enhancements to justify the cost. Super Destronaut DX is a simple, but fun game. It's not the sort that you'll play at length (to limit repetition) but it does make for an entertaining way to pass some time.”

“If Space Invaders floats your intergalactic boat, Super Destronaut DX will definitely scratch your itch and the attempts to nudge and wink its way through your fond memories of neon lights and electro tunes are admirable. However, unless you're a high score hunter or a multiplier maniac who has had their fill of more interesting shooters or music-based games on the system like Just Shapes And Beats or Lumines Remastered, Super Destronaut DX will end up being a brief time killer, but not much else.”

“In the end I’m very torn on Super Destronaut DX because so much about it works very well but given its simplicity just a few major problems really drag it down. It looks and sounds great, is pretty well ideal for play in handheld mode, and the multiple modes and online leaderboards are great touches. However, the constant stream of incoming grey ships that you can’t shoot and must keep track of to dodge on top of the main action just feels a bit cheap as a distraction. The worst is really the lack of consistency in the otherwise excellent Challenge mode when you get down to the last handful of stages. But if you’re a big fan of arcade action, even with these issues it is still probably well worth picking up.”

“Super Destronaut DX could've been a lot worse, but it certainly could've been far better, too. If you're extremely attached to space shooters from the late '70s and early '80s, then you might get something out of this. Otherwise, though, there's nothing done here that hasn't been already executed much better by other similar titles, and the fact that it doesn't add anything particularly unique or interesting to the table makes it difficult to recommend, even despite its low price.”

“Online leaderboards ensures that it has a bit more longevity, something that was incredibly lacking in the Wii U game. The presentation hasn't improved too much sadly, and it is more irritating than it should be. In any case, if you are in need of an arcade style game, you can do far worse than this one.”

“Super Destronaut DX is a fine little package offering a variety of modes and a modern presentation for a classic style.”

“While the innovations Super Destronaut DX bring to the Space Invaders formula are welcome, they don’t go far enough to really bring depth to the package. If you’re looking for a quick boost to your PS4/Vita trophy count, there’s a 30 minute Platinum trophy waiting for you here, otherwise, I’d just stick with the original and best Space Invaders.”

“Super Destronaut DX can bring a tribute to Space Invaders to a contemporary system. Thanks to several game modes and to classic controls, it's nearly impossible to skip. The game does it job right when it comes to intuitive controls, as well as to an updated leaderboard. Unfortunately there is not a lot to do when it comes to the game's lifespan and its price.”

“Bottom line, there’s nothing inherently wrong with Super Destronauts DX, the game plays fine, looks polished enough and features numerous mode types. The problem I have with it though is that nothing about it shines and no part of the game has me eager to jump back in any time soon.”

“Super Destronaut DX is one hell of a retro inspired title. Be sure to pick it up if it sounds like something you'd be interested in; you won't be disappointed.”

“Must-have vertical shoot-em-up that's a modernized Asteroids with a nice twist”

“Super Destronaut DX is a nice modern take on the 80’s classic Space Invaders. The game focuses on quick, fast-paced scenes as you slaughter the enemy ships with your standard gun or one of the various upgrades which drop when you defeat a boss ship. The challenges will keep you entertained the longest, with their ever-increasing difficulty and challenge. The other modes will also offer you a decent amount of enjoyment as well, unless if you’re simply looking at trophy hunting.”
