How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Death's Door have a great look, great sound, and a great story about sweet embrace of death, which all culminates into one cozy adventure. Digital Devolver comes back with another gem on their hands, and we can't wait to see what Acid Nerve can make next.”

“Death's Door is all around professional. It's incredibly polished, well crafted with sound mechanics, and for the most part, it's a blast to play. I just wish the game surprised me more often. I wish it had something new to say, something different to offer. Everything else is so damned good and I don't want to come off as negative at all. I just felt that this great game was a few pieces away from being an all-time classic. Either way, it's easy to recommend spending some time knocking on Death's Door.”

“Death's Door is unquestionably an adventure that deserves attention.”

“It doesn't skimp on challenging action or a satisfying story, but it also doesn't expect us to devote dozens of hours to it. You can reach the end of the story in less than eight hours-roughly as long as the original Legend of Zelda. Its end is neither sudden and unexpected, nor long and drawn-out. If only we can all embrace our own end as gracefully as Death's Door does.”

“Death’s Door absolutely deserves all of the praise I’ve been hearing about over the last few months. It’s a gorgeous game that has an interesting premise and is really well paced, allowing you to complete the main story in around 8 hours and not overstaying it’s welcome at any point. Now that it’s on more platforms than ever, you really have no reason not to check it out. Death’s Door can certainly stand alongside any of the biggest games of the year when it comes to overall fun and quality and will no doubt win plenty of awards as we head into awards season.”
