How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

While the past still looms large and represents a magnificent era, UFC 6 is the best game in the franchise since EA Sports took the helm. Visually flawless and featuring challenging, fun gameplay, it has everything an MMA fan looks for in a current-gen video game. It has its flaws, but they never ruin the experience; the three-year wait was worth every damn second.

After three year development work, one could expect even greater strides forward, but EA Sports UFC 6 still leaves a good aftertaste for fans of the sport and also for those who generally like high-quality fighting games.

EA Sports UFC 6 is perfect for hardcore fans of MMA who just want to get in a cage and fight, assemble their own events, and feel all the things that made them get into the sport in the first place. There's plenty in UFC 6 for you, and the cumbersome menus and lack of real improvement in the career mode(s) probably won't bother you that much. If you were hoping for a complete package where every facet of the series has been upgraded … well, there's always the next one, right?

UFC 6 is, to date, the most complete mixed martial art gaming experience available. Visual pleasing, with enough content to keep players going for many rounds. New accessible play options are a massive bonus, and whilst it does suffer from "EA bloat", it's not so overwhelming as to ruin the experience.

EA Sports UFC 6 does many things right, delivering what you’d expect from it. But as a title meant to advance the franchise, it stumbles too often to truly stand out.

UFC 6 delivers where it matters most: the fights. The action is intense, satisfying, and backed by the strongest presentation the series has seen to date. Some new additions, like The Gym and Flow State, feel unnecessary and can disrupt the pace. Still, with its refined gameplay and robust career offerings, UFC 6 earns its place as the best entry in the franchise so far, even though it doesn’t win by knockout.

With new modes and features aiming to better onboard players, as well as an improved Career mode and upgrades to the core combat experience, EA Sports UFC 6 is the most entertaining and authentic representation of the sport yet. The new museum-like Hall of Legends is a great addition, too.

EA Vancouver believes that every fighter has a story, and with EA Sports UFC 6, it has completely proven its point. Despite a few unnecessary additions, like Flow State and The Gym, slightly hindering its overall success, the heart of UFC 6, two modes that pay supreme respect to the fighter’s journey in Hall of Legends and The Legacy, more than redeem it. Taken in its entirety, this game is very much like a fable itself; a violent one that’s split between fiction and reality, which typically isn’t a good thing. But ultimately, the care and attention given to the latter, to the sport’s history, culture, icons, and everything in between, helps it reach a satisfying end that any MMA fan should be proud of.

EA Sports UFC 6 is a bit of a second wind for this veteran franchise, delivering impressive visuals, refined action, and new ways to play, including a series-first story mode and a flashy Hall of Legends celebrating the accomplishments of some of the biggest names in the sport. The series is still a bit stuck in its ways in some aspects -- grappling could use an update and Career Mode is still a grind -- but overall, UFC 6 punches things up more than you might expect.

EA Sports UFC 6 delivers an authentic and highly entertaining MMA experience. Its deep combat system rewards skill and strategy, while new accessibility options help newcomers find their footing. Although the career mode remains somewhat repetitive and veterans may miss bigger innovations, UFC 6 successfully captures the intensity and spectacle of the sport.

UFC 6 from EA Sports is a fun improvement on many levels from previous releases in the series. It’s easier to get into, exciting to play, and offers enough modes to make this a long-term experience.
