How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Metal Gear Solid Delta might be the least necessary remake ever produced, but it might be my favorite remake for exactly that reason. It’s just Snake Eater with modern graphics and controls, and that’s actually more than I’ve come to expect from the industry these days. By being such a faithful reissue, Delta has secured its place as the definitive way I play MGS3 - I can’t say that about any of the more imaginative remakes we’ve seen in recent years. ”

“MGS3: Snake Eater is one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The remake, although it could have been done better, will also allow you to taste some of its genius. This release is beautiful in some parts, but it suffers most from the inconsistency resulting from the fact that, despite its beautiful presentation, it is inherently rooted in the PS2 era and runs poorly on UE5.”

“Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is, by and large, mission accomplished. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 has been ported wholesale, with as few changes made as possible in order to retain its heart and soul. The improved graphics are great and the quality of life changes are solid, just don’t expect some grand reimagining of the 2004 classic beyond a modernised camera angle. It is still brilliant to play and the story remains engaging all these years later, making this the new best way to play MGS3 despite its lack of new features and content.”

“Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a good remake, but it's a step below contemporary games that have taken that route to connect with the past. Although it's rough around the edges, it manages to respect Kojima Productions' original work, so beyond the audiovisual improvements and gameplay improvements, you'll have in your hands the same great game from 2004. Nothing more, nothing less.”

“So, the big question is whether this is worth revisiting with the HD collection with the original already existing. For me it is a mixed bag. I loved revisiting this absolute classic. The new visuals really do look amazing, and the minor quality of life improvements make it easier to just enjoy the game. Still, I would have loved to see so much more included or updated.”

“There’s a common dilemma that no matter how well it's done, a remake of a beloved original can never quite surpass it. However, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater faithfully recreates the original and, with its new camera system, offers a fresh perspective that makes it worth experiencing all over again. Still, some of the scenes from 20 years ago inevitably come across as awkward by today’s standards.”

Konami has drawn this line at the toes of the original without addressing a few areas that were in need of improvement. Delta is still a version of the best games of all time, but without desired improvements it might not be the definitive one.”
