How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Moncage is a puzzle game that should be treated like a collection of short stories rather than a novel. Enjoy it over several sessions, pausing when it's difficult to think about the different parts, rather than consume it as one experience. It's quite literally to be puzzled over.

Moncage is a unique puzzle game featuring perspective-based puzzles that are sure to captivate a wide range of players. Let your imagination run wild, piece together all the clues, and keep your eyes peeled. Against a backdrop of pleasant music and visual design, a heart-wrenching story unfolds, one I wish had been presented more clearly. The game is unique in several ways and is definitely worth at least a try, even for those who aren’t big on puzzles.

Without words, 'Moncage' show touching stories between a father and a son. No combat, no death scenes. It's just interesting puzzles using optical illusion. But you may feel enough of tragedy of a war.

If you like the slight off hand of a magician or the artistic brilliance of trompe l’oeil, then Moncage will not only be a visual delight but will truly engage those little grey cells in puzzle solving. Without the little frustrations around the collectables and the small bomb glitch, it would have scored our highest rating

It is difficult for me to show the full charm of Moncage through a simple text introduction, but the process of playing with it has undoubtedly brought me a lot of surprises.

Solutions are often clever and make the player feel smart, even if they call on the robust hint system for guidance. In a delightful surprise, the unfolding narrative connects to the seemingly random puzzles, though the story could be more impactful

Moncage captivates with its imaginative concept. The puzzles, which are focused on manipulating the cube to align objects in different universes, are impressive in their ingenuity and diversity. Sometimes the riddles demand confusing or very specific steps. However, the flexible tips system makes it easier to deal with this issue. The atmosphere is also remarkable with many elaborate areas and an unconventionally developed narrative that rewards our attention to details. In the end, Moncage is an outstanding puzzle that's very much worth your time.

The overarching story is a little muddled, but for the most part Moncage is a smart and elegant puzzle game that frequently harks back to the mechanical wizardry of The Room.
