How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS incorporates a niche but successful formula into a similarly successful franchise, which should be a match made in heaven. However, due to graphical and technical issues paired with the unbalanced gameplay and unclear progression and menus, it results in a bit of a mess of a game. It was worth a shot, but I feel as though Dragon Ball should stick to what it knows best.”

“I would definitely recommend DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS to fans of the series, because they’ll appreciate the game much more than someone who doesn’t know what Dragon Ball is all about. However, the developers also took into account that their game doesn’t have to be just for fans of the universe. Thanks to this, DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a new, fun cooperative game, as this project doesn’t require any prior knowledge of the series. If you have seven friends who love Dragon Ball and can jump in with you, you’re all set. Unfortunately, the lack of crossplay and communication between players does reduce the game’s appeal. It doesn’t help that you can’t kick toxic players out. At the same time, some people might not like that this game relies on a gacha system.”

“Dragon Ball: The Breakers isn't likely to challenge titles like Dead by Daylight for the top spot in this growing asymmetrical multiplayer genre, but it is a fun game that stands out among the rest of the Dragon Ball franchise for daring to do something different. Despite some technical issues at launch and the need to do a lot of grinding if you want to get enough experience with the different Raiders, this is still a worthwhile multiplayer timesink for anime fans.”

“Dragon Ball the Breakers is a really fun experience, but the lack of crossplay and content make it a short lived game.”

“After so many Dragon Ball games repeating the same story arcs and putting players in control of the same characters, it’s a fun and refreshing experience (at first) to see what events on the scale of Dragon Ball Z would feel like from the perspective of a regular joe shmoe on the street. It’s a novel enough concept that makes for some great fun in the first few days of play, but it doesn’t take much longer for the cracks to start showing. This take on the asymmetrical multiplayer genre makes sense and there’s some appreciable execution outside of it simply being a Dragon Ball game, but it’s hard to see The Breakers really grabbing players thanks to its dearth of content, multiple grinds, and matches that start to feel a bit too familiar once you get past the new player experience.”

“Fleeing from Cell, Frieza, or Majin Buu's sadistic assaults has its moments of brilliance. But the often tedious exploration, subpar combat system, and intrusive gacha mechanics keep the game from being anything more than a curiosity.”

“Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a big dissapointment for me. It was difficult to go back and play it regularly for the purpose of the review. Nevertheless, I think some fans of the franchise will appreciate the new concept that it brings. Just don't expect something as exceptionnal as the last Kakarot game or FighterZ.”

“At a glance, currencies such as TP, Spirit Syphons, Zeni, and the unreasonably expensive premium cosmetics, may emphasize predatory microtransaction tactics. However, daily and weekly challenges encourage playing rather than paying to win. That said, the grind can become unnecessarily long, even if you're just looking to buy some new clothes for your character.”

“Dragon Ball: The Breakers' poor camera and controls limit what enjoyment can be had in this interesting take on asymmetrical multiplayer that is already hindered by other design choices.”

“The developers just need to find a way to fix the title's typos quickly and methodically before all the hardcore Dragon Ball fans get disappointed, and then maybe we'll have a really fun asymmetrical multiplayer game”

“Although Dragon Ball: The Breakers is actually a good idea, it is an experience that I can only recommend to anime fans due to its flaws in the implementation part, the gacha system and the luck-based gameplay that gets boring after a while with bad teammates.”

“All the same, despite iffy monetization choices and the general feeling that the game might not last long enough to become a permanent part of your rotation, Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a frantic and fast-paced interpretation of a genre otherwise saturated in horror movie tropes.”
