How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Little Nightmares III is a darkly beautiful follow-up that captures the series’ eerie charm but plays it too safe, offering an experience that feels more familiar than frightening.

Little Nightmares 3 succeeded in maintaining the terrifying and disturbing atmosphere that characterized the series since its beginning, with the addition of Supermassive Games studio’s cinematic touch, which granted the experience a new and distinctive visual and psychological depth. The game blends continuous tension and the mystery that shrouds its dark world, offering an adventure that relies on cooperation between the two main characters in solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles. Although some puzzles may seem repetitive or the simple control system may slightly affect the smoothness of the experience, the strength of the artistic and audio direction, and the precise details in the environment design, make the player live a state of anxiety and attraction at the same time. Little Nightmares 3 is not just a continuation of the series, but a redefinition of its atmosphere, where innocence blends with danger, and wonder with fear, to offer an immersive experience that deserves to be undertaken with passion and curiosity until its final moment.

When the dust settles, it’s hard not to come away from Little Nightmares 3 disappointed. Its brief 3–5 hour runtime offers little more than recycled ideas and formulaic scares. There’s no spark of innovation here, just a pale imitation wearing the nightmarish skin of what came before, destined to fade from memory almost as soon as the credits roll.

Little Nightmares 3 is a solid continuation of the series, but it won't thrill many players because everything it offers is slightly worse than the previous installment. It's a good game, but average.

Despite Supermassive Games' efforts, Little Nightmares III turned out to be a corporate business product, devoid of the very features that made the series beloved by millions of players around the world.

Little Nightmares III feels like a game that was made under duress, as if the developers weren't particularly interested in it. It's as if they were given a brief: make a third game in a series that has nothing to do with them. They did it, and the result is a short, dull, and unoriginal platformer, inferior in every way to the duology and more like a spinoff that should have cost half as much and been called something else.

Little Nightmares III feels as if it’s afraid of its own shadow. The tension, which should be building, tends to stagnate instead. In the moments when the game tries to create intensity, indifference sets in instead of anxiety. Everything looks right, but it doesn’t get under your skin. Maybe it’s because Low and Alone aren’t as distinctive characters as Six and Mono. Maybe it’s because their world feels less personal. Maybe it’s simply because Supermassive Games chose safety over risk.

Little Nightmares III faithfully preserves the oppressive mood, clever environmental puzzles, and visceral unease associated with the series, but feels like an echo of what came before. While its dark allure remains potent, the baffling absence of local co-op undercuts the game's most ambitious feature. Though its multiplayer concept shines in theory, the absence of a character-swap feature to enrich single-player mode feels like another missed opportunity.

Little Nighmares III keeps the eerie charm of its predecessors, adding co-op play and great visuals, but limited multiplayer options and mild innovation hold it back from true greatness.

Little Nightmares III isn't a bad game, despite its many flaws. It's an average, craftsmanlike effort that offers a few hours of enjoyable fun. The problem is that this series has accustomed us to more than just lackluster accuracy. The first and second installments were treasure troves of bold ideas that stayed with us for a long time. I'll forget about this little nightmare very quickly.

Over the course of its four chapters, Little Nightmares 3 emulates what made the series great, but fails to live up to the potential its predecessors achieved.

If you’re hunting for something atmospheric to play this Halloween that won’t eat your entire weekend, Little Nightmares III is absolutely worth your time. It might not keep you up all night, but it’ll definitely make you hesitate before turning off the lights.
