How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is definitely a good action RPG. Once again, it proves that Riot Forge's collaboration with talented developers makes sense, and they can bring stories from the world of League of Legends in a novel way. Still, the levels are often straightforward and would benefit from some additional filler. Because of this, The Mageseeker feels like it hasn't lived up to its full potential.

Even if this project related to Riot Games is a big step forward for the developers, Moonlighter fans will probably think of it as a step back. It's a neat game and its fun mechanics work great, but the gameplay often feels monotonous.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is an action-packed brawler that will captivate you with its gameplay mechanics and visuals. As soon as you start the game, the action will draw you in so completely that you won’t want to stop. The developers have once again chosen an excellent storyline and managed to craft it into a compelling narrative. The only things that detract from the game’s appeal are the lengthy dialogues and pointless DLC. So if you’re interested in League of Legends, or simply love action-packed rogue-like titles, we highly recommend this game.

If you can get past the bugs and performance issues at launch, The Mageseeker proves itself to be yet another strong addition to Riot's growing catalogue of intriguing spin-off games. Sylas's bittersweet quest supplies a compelling story that nicely complements the fast-paced combat and magic-stealing action, providing fans with an enjoyable action experience that fans of 2D action games will want to take note of. We'd give The Mageseeker a high recommendation to anyone looking for another good retro hack 'n' slash for their collection-this one is deeper than it may appear on the surface, and it stands up well next to peers such as Unsighted or Hyper Light Drifter.

Yet another great game that expands the LoL universe. Mageseeker has some issues, but they are easy to ignore, the gameplay and the story are so much fun!

Despite a simple gameplay loop and basic level design, The Mageseeker is a joyous, and addictive game to play. The repetitiveness never wears out the combat, which continues to keep the player fully engaged.

The Mageseeker is definitely a title that could have been great, thanks to the way it expands the Sylas lore in League of Legends. But until a corrective patch comes out to fix the many bugs present, it can't be more than a decent title.

The Mageseeker is an enjoyable action RPG experience if you're into 2D pixel art, fun-if-simple action mechanics where you take magic & sling it back, and everything in-between. The League of Legends lore expanding of Demacia and its cast are also a treat, but I'm honestly in it for the simple gameplay loop and the challenges it poses along the way. Keep at it with these spin-off bangers, Riot Forge!

To say that The Mageseeker is a great surprise would be an understatement in my case. Knowing absolutely nothing about the world of League of Legends, I loved my time with Sylas, so much so that I would be tempted to extend my adventure of this world with other media. Let's face it, it's quite a universe and it's because of games like this and the excellent work of the developer teams that there will always be more followers. An excellent adventure in general that should please many players. Not to be missed if you already like League of Legends, and to be discovered if you don't.

The Mageseekers certainly has an audience, especially with LoL having over 152 million monthly players. And while I wasn’t aware of Sylas before this game, I did find his story interesting but for as much as I liked him, I loved all the cameos. Being able to see Shyvana in her full-size dragon form was a treat and I could really appreciate the size and majesty of her in that form. Something that just isn’t possible with the top-down perspective of matches in Summoners Rift. Which is why I am all for these games starring the champs from LoL; it allows those personalities to really shine and garner some new fans of the series and its deep lore. While I didn’t love The Mageseekers mainly due to my issues with the overly fast combat and my difficulty keeping track of Sylas when things really got going. However, as a fan of the lore, I enjoyed his heartbreaking story of revenge and redemption.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story manages to retain the essence of what it is to play Sylas, but suffers from consistency issues with its storytelling.
