How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Despite some story misgivings, Episode INTERmission makes for an exceptional piece of DLC. It adds thrilling combat, a fun new character in Sonon, and Final Fantasy VII Remake’s best mini-game to date. It also includes a few bonus scenes that, without giving anything away, fans of the base game will want to watch. At $20, Episode INTERmission isn’t the cheapest proposition, but it’s certainly a worthwhile one. If you’re lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5, do yourself a favor and give it a go. Yuffie fans, rejoice!”

“After years of waiting, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade arrives on Xbox Series X|S platforms to provide the best experience for the world of Midgar. The story is characterized by a wonderful narrative style met by distinctive characters, but it was not devoid of repetition in some of its corners. While the gameplay combines regular and tactical combat, the fights are enjoyable for what the game offers in terms of multiple combat styles and commands, as well as the development of weapons and characters, and the use of Materia. The graphics are high quality, and the technical performance is smooth and stable, making this version a good experience worth the attention for both players of the series and the new audience.”

“The occasional moments of tonal dissonance stick out, but they don’t necessarily hurt the experience. And it can’t be underestimated how great it is to have a game that’s very much an allegory about Asian people fighting to be heard, and with two Asian voice actors actually playing the leads. Still, the episode is titled quite accurately. At five-to-seven hours, Episode INTERmission isn’t quite filler, but it’s also not entirely filling. It’s an appreciable detour on a much longer journey.”

“Even in its attempts to swing big and do something different, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade respects where it’s come from. The classic's pro-revolutionary heart is still intact, and it’s never afraid to get a little weird and funny. The Switch 2 version makes impressively few compromises to get this gorgeous-looking game running on the system, even at 30fps, this looks and feels fantastic. The fact that everything from the PS5 release is preserved in such excellent fashion here is remarkable, and it makes me excited (and anxious) about Rebirth’s incoming port.”

“Ultimately, Final Fantasy VII Remake can be considered a rousing success and sets up the Remake trilogy to great effect. There’s a huge amount to enjoy about the game, be it the exciting combat, impressive presentation, highly endearing cast, fascinating adjustments to the original tale, or detailed realisation of Midgar. If one hasn’t already dove into Final Fantasy VII Remake, the fine Nintendo Switch 2 release is an excellent opportunity to.”

“While Yuffie's gameplay style is unique and well fleshed out, it doesn't help that she's the only playable character in a game that's designed around managing simultaneous teamwork. The short length, even for a DLC chapter, hurts it as well. It's worth playing for die hard fans of the base game, but not a big deal otherwise, and even some of those fans might be left disappointed.”

“If you loved VII Remake, it's hard to imagine you not enjoying this episode. But if you haven't been able to find a PS5 or don't want to pay extra for it, you're not missing out on too much, either. Episode Intermission feels like a nice, bite-sized snack to munch on while waiting for the next main course with the second part, providing just enough new wrinkles and story elements to feel fresh while not doing anything crazy enough to warrant it as essential.”

“Final Fantasy 7 Remake has re-envisioned the classic game, delivering a much expanded upon but faithful adaptation of the Midgar portion of the Final Fantasy 7 story. Providing brand new twists and turns to the narrative and plenty of great character development. It’s likely still years away, but I truly can’t wait to see what Square Enix have in store for us in the next entry in this multi part remake of one of the greatest games of all time.”

“Ultimately, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a better version of Final Fantasy VII Remake. While some of the improvements may not seem noticeable, the ones that are, are great. Saves from the PS4 can be saved and imported into this new version using in-game options, so you can carry over your progress and trophies if you decide to jump back into the game.”

“Drawing several parallels with our reality, the story of Final Fantasy VII Remake captivates with the way it develops its characters and introduces us to its rich universe. The game also stands out for its stunning graphics, exceptional soundtrack, and gameplay that can be customized in various ways.”

“Final Fantasy VII Remake on Switch 2 is a bold port that prioritizes visual fidelity and complete content over space optimization. While its file size is excessive by Switch standards and it does experience minor performance drops, it offers one of the best technical experiences seen on the console, perfect for reliving Midgar on the go.”

“Final Fantasy 7 Remake's latest ports are superb on both the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Despite the framerate differences, both versions keep those stunning visuals and are finally letting players experience one of the best Final Fantasy games out there.”
