How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Forstpunk 2 should appeal not only to building and planning enthusiasts but also to people who appreciate a serious narrative and a more profound treatment of the factions and characters present in the game.

11 Bit Studios should be extremely proud of Frostpunk 2; it’s an intoxicatingly detailed and beautiful survival management game. For those who do want more Frostpunk, Frostpunk 2 delivers and then some. Fans of games like Crusader Kings 2 will rejoice, and these added social elements may delight fans of Sid Meier’s Civilization series.  The array of laws and choices means Frostpunk 2 is hyper-replayable, for those interested in that sort of thing. Just a glance at the Steam Achievements list makes it clear that there’s a lot you can do and different approaches you can take. I’m already considering what I’ll do next time.

Frostpunk 2 remains quite brutal, and yet offers a great city-building gameplay with a very stylish visuals. You can also clearly see in which ways developers addressed some of the criticism of the first game, making the sequel that much better game.

With Frostpunk 2, 11 bit studios brings us a sequel with a clear philosophy that makes the series grow by proposing something new but without losing its identity. A fantastic sequel that looks forward without repeating itself and, as its proposal states, 11 bit studios seeks to continue building, but thinking about the future.

It certainly can’t be said that Frostpunk 2 simply blindly copies the previous installment without attempting any changes. Instead, it shifts the focus from individuals to the collective, and if this shift in gameplay, along with the political aspect, doesn’t put you off, you’ll have at least as much fun as you did with the original game. However, given the number of bugs and unfinished elements, as well as the relatively sparse content, it will be interesting to see what the developers come up with in the coming months.

Frostpunk 2, while not as depressingly winter wonderland-y wonderful as its predecessor, is still as solid as ice in a pre-global warming whiteout.‍

Frostpunk 2 is a vividly different game from its predecessor that functions as a fully fledged sequel, and that narratively follows its change of mechanics. It is more of a social simulator than a survival city builder, but it still poses as a great and decision heavy experience that will test your moral values at every step.

Frostpunk 2 is different that its predecessor. It too experiments with gameplay and tries to create a thrilling system of making difficult decisions, but the bigger scale of governing an entire region looks a bit uninished. Great potential to create a giant world was squandered, and the thing that generates most fun, is the policital system, not building your city.

Frostpunk 2 is a masterpiece of a sequel that I see myself playing a whole lot more of, and I’m nudging my friends to play as well.

Frostpunk 2 is an exceptional title, a management-survival hybrid that bravely diverges from its predecessor to pursue its own ambitions. With a stunning setting, deep and multifaceted gameplay, and impressive artistic design, this sequel will delight fans willing to embrace the series’ new direction. However, its high difficulty, heavy focus on certain game aspects, and underwhelming day-one performance may deter some players from diving in.

Frostpunk 2 is a great entry into the city-survival genre and one that will hook even newcomers to the genre. With a fantastic campaign full of difficult choices, a sandbox mode available from the start, and so many options on how you shape New London, the larger scale of Frostpunk 2 is one that succeeds in every way.

Just like its predecessor, Frostpunk 2 manages to shine on consoles as well, a challenging task for such a unique blend of management and city-builder that should be at its best when played with a mouse. It is, and that certainly doesn't come as a surprise, but the console UI does a very good job at making the game playable and enjoyable with a DualSense... except for a few, pesky bugs that make certains commands not registering and needing quick workarounds like opening and closing the main menu before working again. Nothing that can't be fixed hopefully, and certainly not enough to ruin what remains an excellent and extremely addicting title, even on console.
