How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam β 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

βWhile its controls can be a lot at first, the choices they open up make for some great platforming and puzzling challengesβ

βWindswept is a demanding platformer that can feel Nintendo Hard at times, but it could prove quite satisfying if you put the time into it.β

βWindswept is a charming, nostalgic love letter to 90s platformers, packed with personality, collectables, and thoughtful mechanics. Its visuals, music, and fluid gameplay hit the sweet spot between homage and freshness. The difficulty spike in later stages may frustrate casual players like me, but for enthusiasts and completionists, it offers a rewarding challenge.β

βWindswept is an adorable ode to classic 1990s platformers, mostly for better, but occasionally for worse. The charming design, stellar presentation, and fluid platforming mechanics are top-notch. Assists added to the game are thoughtfully included, especially because the game gets absurdly challenging by the end of the experience. This is a case of a near-flawless first act, but a second act that will leave many setting the controller down and walking away, or abusing assists just to see the game through. I still think it's one worth checking out for retro platformer fans, but I'm a bit bummed that what felt like a certified classic initially doesn't quite stick the landing in the end.β

βWindswept goes literal in its inspiration from Donkey Kong Country, offering a platforming adventure very similar to those in the classic trilogy. The difficulty is high, and repeating certain sections over and over is frustrating, but the accessibility options ensure that no one is prevented from progressing in the game. Even if it doesn't do anything to stand out, it's good fun for those who enjoy retro mascot platformers.β

βWindswept is a charming, retro-inspired platformer with an upbeat soundtrack, accessibility options, tag-team mechanics, and adorable pixel art. However, players should be prepared for a challenging experience, as the game can be frustrating for all.β
