How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 83 | 48 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 96% | 91 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 76 | 15 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 99% | 95 | 10 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.2, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 2,712 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is a well-crafted remaster of the original 2005 game, which will particularly delight die-hard fans of the Katamari series and offer a bit of a trip down memory lane to the days of the PlayStation 2. If you played the original, you should definitely pick up the remaster without a second thought. However, the gameplay is marred by a few shortcomings, most notably the clunky controls, which will take some getting used to in the PC version. On behalf of us at Gaming Professors, I’m giving We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie a solid seven out of ten.”

“In rounding off Katamari Damacy's rougher edges and upping the ante with more diverse mechanics and challenges, even goofier writing, and a terrific soundtrack, We Love Katamari cemented itself as a high watermark for video game sequels in 2005. Even without the remaster treatment, the game's maintained its luster remarkably well but Reroll + Royal Reverie is (an admittedly thin layer of) icing on an already decadent cake. With a number of solid quality-of-life updates and sharper, brighter visuals, this is undeniably the best way to experience the 2005 classic.”

“Really, the minimum expectation for me when it comes to remakes is to make a good game better than it used to be. I feel confident in saying that We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie does enough to fulfill that requirement, and is priced in a way that makes it a no-brainer to pick up. It’s the best version of this game to date, and it gives me hope that seeing these being brought to modern platforms may be the spark that gives us brand-new titles. But for now, I’m fine with getting a well-crafted remake of a damned fine game with the kind of quality-of-life updates and additional content that help the low barrier of entry go down even easier than a straight port ever could. Go roll up some stars, man. You’ll enjoy it.”

“This far outstrips the first game in content amount, and the approach to telling a new story that can encapsulate the wider scope is genius. We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is a fantastic portable game and fits Switch like a glove. This is a hearty recommendation to all gamers and any lovers of the King's tight purple tights.”

“We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is the best version of what is generally considered the best Katamari title. That being said, if you own the original and are looking to buy it just for the Royal Reverie content, its extremely short runtime makes it hard to recommend for that alone. However, for anyone who hasn’t played this weird and wonderful game (or series) it’s a definite recommendation, and a game with an extremely fitting name.”

“undefined. If you've ever played We Love Katamari or any version of the original Katamari Damacy, then you already know what you'll be getting into with We Love Katamari Reroll. It's an incremental improvement at best-both as a sequel to Katamari Damacy and as a port of We Love Katamari-but if that's all you're looking for then the end result will certainly be satisfying. Katamari is already such an unusual game that maybe its sequel doesn't need to be particularly groundbreaking, and since it's so rare for any Katamari game to be released at all it's absolutely a good place to start for anyone that hasn't gotten to experience the series' weird and wonderful vibes.”

“I may seem a little overzealous when I say this, but We Love Katamari is one of the best games ever made. Sure, the concept isn’t for everyone, but it does everything this concept has going for it perfectly. I think the series lost focus after this title which isn’t a surprise because this is the last Katamari game that the creator Keita Takahashi worked on. The other Katamari games are great do not get me wrong and I hope those get remastered too, but future games lacked the same innovation We Love Katamari had for the concept of rolling up junk. This is the top of the clump spirit folks, and I would suggest not missing it.”

“We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie is just as magical as the games that came before it. The core mechanics remain just as charming and fun as before, while the more varied environments and requests give the concept some more depth. The Royal Reverie part may be disappointing, but it doesn't take away from the main experience that still does a great job of making everyone smile. Just like that first game, it's a classic and deserves a place in everyone's gaming library.”

“The last great Katamari game and in terms of everything but the soundtrack the better game of the two, even if the novelty barely stretches across two titles.”

“We Love Katamari is simply a better and more complex version of the concept introduced by the first game in the series. If you finished Katamari Damacy and wished to play more of it, don't hesitate here.”
