How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“OPUS: Prism Peak is a deeply personal, deeply moving, and at times brutally heavy story about how even after losing everything, you can still find at least hope.”

“Opus: Prism Peak isn’t a game for everyone, as rather than action and adrenaline, it focuses primarily on emotions, a melancholic atmosphere and a slow narrative pace. Yet it is precisely this that allows it to leave a much stronger impression than many bigger titles. Its greatest strength lies in the humanity of the protagonist, Eugene, who doesn’t come across as a classic video-game saviour of the world, but as an ordinary person full of flaws, regrets and insecurities. His journey towards coming to terms with the past feels very personal and believable. The photography-based gameplay is also highly original, with the camera serving not merely as a mechanic but as a vital part of the story itself and the exploration of memories. The stunning audiovisual presentation, reminiscent of an interactive anime film, also plays a huge role. Opus: Prism Peak thus offers an exceptional experience that you won’t remember for its action, but for the atmosphere and emotions it leaves you with.”

“Sigono has proven once again that it understands powerful emotional storytelling with OPUS: Prism Peak, a game about self-reflection, acknowledging what's come before, and moving on. It's the most Studio Ghibli-like game I've ever played, in a way that goes beyond aesthetics. If you're not careful, it's easy to miss some crucial unlockables and some of the game's best moments; a second run-through might be quicker, but it still requires you to play at a particular pace. And the Switch 2 isn't the best way to play at the time of writing, but once it's fully developed, there are few better story and character-driven experiences on the console than this.”

“A pretty emotional and ultimately meditative journey that uses photography as its primary means of interaction”

“Too many puzzles, too many metaphors, too many systems and ideas layered on top of a core loop that didn't need them. Trim some of the fat, and this is a standout. As it stands, though, it's a flawed gem.”

“OPUS: Prism Peak is a powerful journey that unflinchingly tells us to embrace change. Its surreal setting only serves to portray that none of our lives are that different. Through photography, memories, and community, its universal message of hope is one that lasts forever.”

“When you experience Opus: Prism Peak, you need to pay attention and play with a purpose, putting yourself in Eugene's shoes.”

“OPUS: Prism Peaks is a heartfelt journey about the human condition and the importance of friends and family. While this is a slower-paced experience, focused on imagery and storytelling, every aspect felt engaging and enjoyable. The 3D anime art style and vivid colours make the landscapes really pop and become the perfect backdrop for photo taking. A real orchestral soundtrack adds a beautiful layer of depth and emotion to the already emotional story, and it’s hard not to fall in love with the charismatic cast of characters. While this style of gameplay won’t be for everyone, the story is one that will stick with players for a long time.”

“The world of Opus: Prism Peak is a finely crafted tale that ebbs and flows with wrenching and heavy emotion not often felt in many forms of media these days. I kindly recommend Eugene's story to anyone ready to take the plunge into a new world that threatens to pull you in and never let go of the heart it exposes in you.”

“OPUS: Prism Peak is a narrative adventure that will have you glued to the screen. With Shinkai-esque aesthetics, a meaningful use of photography and relatable characters, you’ll not want to leave the Dusklands.”

“I find myself with a knot in my throat just writing about this game. OPUS Prism Peak feels at times a lot less like a game and more like a work of art. That is if you can handle the joy, the loss, the pain, or in other words, life. It is cathartic, it is real, it is beautiful, and it is sad. The jadedness of adulthood, the naivete of youth, joy of life, and the journey we take to get to our endings. But also that there is hope, there is a future, sometimes we just need to take a photo, pause, and reflect.”
