How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 83 | 6 |
| Creator reviews (1 tracked) | – | 90 | 0 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 98% | 93 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 87 | 12 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 98% | 94 | 5 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 92.1, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 13,749 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“At $10, Gunpoint is a proudly lean product, and its clever blend of stealth, puzzles and film noir humor is worth exploring, though you may want to avoid enhancing your real-life spy skills by following Conway's lead. Unless consistently hurling yourself through windows is already a hobby.”

“Gunpoint is a short, well-crafted title that combines film noir, stealth, and hacking puzzles into a incredibly fun gaming experience. No one mechanic or playstyle takes precedence over the others, but all are equally balanced and fun to play around with.”

“Just mucking around in these little sandboxes is a blast - and in that sense, it's the best sort of game, where play is its own reward. More snack than feast, it would be nice if there was slightly more of it to enjoy, but Gunpoint comes highly recommended all the same.”

“Spying, puzzles, and acrobatic feats make Gunpoint a delight to play, but the overall experience is unfortunately short.”

“Beneath Gunpoint's trench coat is a witty, devious and intelligent shot of puzzling, systematic gameplay - with a healthy dose of punching. [Aug 2013, p.86]”

“A smart and jaunty puzzle-platformer, in which you utilize a creative approach to highly-secured areas. Besides its entertaining gameplay, the game briefly introduces its interesting universe and its characters along with their own motivations that are there for you to figure out. [Issue#231]”

“Gunpoint is a refreshingly welcome addition to the burgeoning stealth genre. It nails player movement, puzzles, and storytelling in games, and completely removes anything that stands in the way of these three.”

“It’s great, affordable fun, and a lesson in how far smart design, good writing and respect for players’ intelligence can take a game.”

“Currently, I still hope that a simple replacement function for user-generated challenges or even entire campaigns will be available again.”

“Become a detective, who's using obstacles on his way as launching pads to his success. Gunpoint is a dope to the action-stealth genre with its entirely new and unorthodox gameplay. The only thing spoiling the overall experience is that the game is short.”
