How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

God of War Ragnarök is truly excellent. Quality seeps out of the thing, with so much effort put into even its less consequential elements. Richly detailed, terrifically written, all with a massively entertaining blend of combat and puzzles. The overwhelming amount of content can most certainly grow tiring at points and there are moments of disruptive meandering. Nevertheless, for a game to offer so much and retain such a high caliber is worthy of applause.

If you love northern mythology, while also can enjoy stories about fatherhood and can appreciate deep combat systems, then God of War Ragnarök is something you should not miss.

God of War Ragnarök is the culmination of everything the developers at Santa Monica Studio have learned over the years. They've brought together everything they do best: excellent character design, gorgeous rendering of locations and retelling of mythology, creative arena battles spiced with various skills, and switching between characters, all in a cinematic style telling a family story you wouldn't expect from the series. It's a combination of talents that few people can pull off in the gaming world. In its stylization and technological execution, this title is the pinnacle of the gaming industry.

God of War: Ragnarök finally arrived on PC with a very solid version that allows us to continue enjoying the adventures of Kratos and a highly epic story. Santa Monica Studio's work is sublime and, except for Atreus' segments in which the adventure loses some momentum, we are in front of a wonderful journey full of action, intimate moments and an epic story. A videogame that does enough merits to live up to expectations.

Ragnarok works the kind of narrative miracles that the medium has no excuse not to follow suit on. This is the kind of love and care that’s not only possible for a big budget game, but deeply necessary.

God of War: Ragnarok is an excellent sequel that starts off at a slower pace, but the second half of the game is pure action-packed fun, complemented by an emotional portrayal of both main characters. There are plenty of side activities that will keep you glued to your seat for hours. The icing on the cake is the graphics and the soundtrack.

If you can put the technical issues aside, this is the definitive way to experience Kratos & Atreus' ongoing journey. God of War: Ragnarök is a fantastic sequel and shows a studio at the peak of their game making powers.

Grandeur and epicness have caused a little bit of harm to Ragnarok - the 2018 God of War is by all means a better game. Not all new things work in the sequel. Still, I believe that this is a game worth checking out, and if you liked the first one, you simply HAVE to.

God of War takes the essence of what it means to be mortal and packs it into this digital medium to form a bond with those who are experiencing it first-hand. I tossed myself at Ragnarök for a sense of escapism, and what I ended up receiving was a testament to life and what it means to live and be loved.

I can't stress enough how God of War Ragnarök is a fantastic game with tremendous heights. It caps off the Norse mythology duology beautifully, and I absolutely cannot wait to see where the series goes from here. It's just a bit of a shame that it can't quite live up to the game that came before it.
