How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a stylish action RPG with punchy combat and a faithful early-story adaptation, but it’s held back by grindy, opaque progression, always‑online headaches, and lingering mobile-game baggage. If you like Solo Leveling and enjoy the grind enough to overlook some jank, it’s easy to have fun here.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a double-sided work, where the combat system is well designed and satisfying, but with a gameplay structure anchored to the mobile version of the title. Although the graphic impact of the characters and the fidelity of the animations manage to capture the attention, the overall experience ends up being inevitably diluted by an overly fragmented narrative, environments lacking in detail and technical issues. We are faced with a solid but still rough base, a title that will require substantial corrective measures and additional post-launch content to express its true potential.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a game that, if given a little more time in the kitchen to cook, could potentially be a good single-player and multiplayer experience. While serviceable, the niche of an anime action role-playing game with excellent combat systems and deep character customisation is better filled by games that aren’t spoiled by a lack of optimisation, monotonous mission design, poor technical performance, and numerous game-breaking glitches.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE feels like an adaptation that fixates on power-fantasy action while discarding nearly everything that made the original compelling. Its has great audiovisuals, sure, but the gameplay quickly becomes an unrewarding and repetitive checklist.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a well-made tie-in, despite a few limits and shortcomings. It largely does justice to the original work.

Netmarble Neo's action RPG is a shoddy adaptation of the beloved manhwa and a terrible, repetitive experience otherwise.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE adds an elemental system that gives battles more meaning. Some skills, like Illuminate, Cold Ice, Scorch, Erode, and Haunt, change your state. When you properly chain these with other hunts, Elemental Chain effects happen that do a lot of Chaos and Overwhelm damage.

ARISE OVERDRIVE is not just a cash in on webtoon popularity but a full circle tribute to the medium that raised it, capturing the energy, pacing, and emotional highs that made Solo Leveling a global force in digital storytelling. The game succeeds because it understands exactly what made the original special, honoring its webtoon roots while retelling the narrative with respect and delivering action gameplay that fully lives up to the Shadow Monarch legacy. Whether you are a longtime reader or stepping into Sung Jinwoo journey for the first time, this stands as one of the strongest webtoon to game adaptations released so far.

A spectacular action RPG faithful to the Solo Leveling universe, with rewarding combat, successful fan service, and immersive progression, but whose repetitive secondary content limits its replayability over time.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is an action-packed character-driven RPG that tells the story of Sung Jinwoo as he evolves into a legendary hunter. There are many improvements across the board, including major gameplay tweaks and additions, a more immersive story mode structure, and the removal of gacha mechanics. Fans who have been waiting for a single-player Solo Leveling game finally got it with Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, despite some of the quality-related flaws that came with the original ARISE.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is clearly intended to be a love letter to the source material that's drawn many fans across the globe for its dramatic, protagonist-driven story, fascinating lore, thrilling fight sequences, and surprisingly emotional moments. However, the creative execution of that homage in this game leaves a lot of confusion and disappointment on the story front, which should serve as its foundation rather than a botched afterthought. As a result, it almost forcibly alienates Solo Leveling newcomers, who are left without a premise to base their experience on. The combat and endgame grind does make up for it well enough, as cutting through fearsome foes as Sung Jinwoo feels satisfying and seldom gets old. Time will tell if the development team fills the holes it needs to for this game to become a true retelling of Solo Leveling, or if it remains more about fan service.
