How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 71 | 24 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 78% | 73 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 67 | 14 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 80% | 74 | 256 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“With Star Trucker, Monster and Monster invites us to leave behind the paved roads to become real space truckers, with an accessible and fun arcade simulator. A video game that does enough to keep us in the cab of a space truck, with an enjoyable proposal that, despite having some annoying aspects, manages to tip the balance in its favor.”

“Star Trucker is a solid game for fans of space simulators who enjoy a combination of logistics, trade, and “leisurely” space exploration. The game’s main drawbacks are certain logical paradoxes stemming from its setting and an AI that lacks any sense of self-preservation. If you enjoy space simulators and don’t mind facing repetitive challenges, Star Trucker will definitely offer you a worthwhile experience.”

“Star Trucker is a great addition to the genre, introducing some fresh ideas and gameplay mechanics while taking us on an exciting journey across the universe. Now we just need more of it.”

“There's a fair amount of depth to Star Trucker if you have the patience for it, and it's all presented with pleasant visuals and Americana stylings that lend it a fun atmosphere. There are some potentially frustrating elements and it's tougher than you might expect, but there's a fulfilling and novel game here for sim fans.”

“Star Trucker reflects the space theme nicely but presents challenging gameplay instead of offering players a relaxing experience.”

“Star Trucker is a solid example of a promising concept that’s been executed… well enough. As a simulation game, it doesn’t exactly grip you, and the experience is bogged down by the tedious upkeep of fuel and power cells, coupled with clunky controls that can’t even be remapped. Despite these flaws, the simulation of the universe you're trucking in is genuinely impressive. With some fine-tuning, this game could evolve into a stellar experience. For now, though, it’s best you keep yourself grounded with a more down-to-earth trucking experience.”

“You can spend tens of hours in cold space, but you have to be in the mood and have the time. The game is currently brought to its knees by shallowness and game elements that are not perfected.”

“Star Trucker surprised me with its blend of truck simulation and its setting in a way I didn’t think was possible. This feels like a game catering to what I enjoy a lot in automobile simulation and exploration games. While it might not be for everyone, I’ve enjoyed playing Star Trucker quite a bit ever since I got review code on Steam Deck. I hope the developers optimize it a bit more for Valve’s handheld though.”

“While not necessarily the most out there game in terms of ideas or gameplay, what is here helps give Space Trucker plenty of legs, especially to someone like me who is naturally inclined to enjoy the mundane nature of hauling cargo, with the added hooks of having to do it in space. The setting is cool in its relative routine structure of playing a worker sometime in the future where it’s just another job like any other, which is exactly the type of sci-fi that most appeals to me. Whatever contract is out there, I’ll be sure to pop by and do my best, ten-4, breaker breaker.”

“Being a simulator, Star Trucker won't be for everyone; flying through space making deliveries sounds simple, but in actuality there are lots of plates to spin. Those that get on with it will likely find themselves engrossed, however, but it does verge on becoming a little repetitive.”

“The concept of the long-distance space driving simulation Star Trucker works, but it lacks a bit of content for long-term motivation.”

“The routes are short and monotonous, but the handling of the truck conveys, in an atmospheric way, what it must be like to steer a truck through space.”
