How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Neva is an extremely emotional journey that catches your heart and makes you cry. It is probably my favorite game of the year at the moment, due to the fact that it provided me with everything I need in a video game. Very good gameplay, beautiful graphics and an emotional soundtrack complementing it all, gives one of the best gaming blends this year.”

“Neva is not yet a modern classic, but it's one of those games that can be completed in a couple of evenings but is memorable for years to come.”

“Art installation pretending to be an action platformer. And a very successful one at that.”

“Nomada Studio returns with Neva, a heartbreaking, emotional and contemplative adventure, whose visuals and sound make it one of the best experiences of the year. A beautiful experience to behold, that entertains from beginning to end without being too long, and that without much effort, manages to leave a mark in the heart.”

“The themes here are painted with a broad brush, but their refusal to get down to specifics doesn’t mean that they don’t still ring true. The game bittersweetly fixates on parenthood, as you watch Neva herself grow and outpace Alba as the seasons pass, and on the destruction of the natural world, which in turn makes it more hostile and violent. And then there’s the connective thread between the two, that even when it feels like everything is falling apart, because sometimes it literally is, the only thing you can do is keep moving.”

“Neva is a spectacular example of art in motion, delivering a thoroughly engrossing platforming experience that'll stick in your mind long after you've rolled credits. The incredible visuals, moving soundtrack, satisfying gameplay, and surprisingly touching story all come together to make for a game that shouldn't miss. A few frame drops aside, if you're looking for a new addition to your library that'll give you something to savour rather than just consume, look no further than Neva.”

“As Nomada Studio’s second entry, Neva succeeds in delivering what all studios dream of. Refined controls, a strong art style, and a heart-wrenching narrative. Put simply, it is a perfect intersection between art and interactivity.”

“Despite not having the same poetical storytelling that made Gris stand out, Neva is still a truly unique experience: it has a meaningful art direction and better gameplay mechanics than its predecessor, it's a wonderful example of experimental game design and, most importantly, it's a really important portrayal of nature, life and death. Another must play from Nomada Studio.”

“Neva presents itself as a title that manages to skilfully balance narrative and gameplay mechanics, where its strength lies in its ability to combine an excellent artistic compartment, which reflects the emotions of the protagonists in every detail, with gameplay that evolves along with the relationship between Alba and the wolf. Neva is an experience recommended not only to platformer and action-adventure lovers, but to anyone looking for a game capable of offering a strong narrative, supported by smooth gameplay. An adventure that touches deep chords and deserves to be experienced from start to finish.”
