How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Metacritic user ratings | – | 84 | 65 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 97% | 92 | 37 |

“Tormented Souls 2 pays wonderful homage to classic survival horror while improving upon its predecessor in several key ways.”

“Tormented Souls 2 is a worthy successor to the original game, offering an improved experience for players. The sequel has significantly enhanced user-friendliness with its well-designed puzzles and intuitive hints. While the combat system and balance mechanics still present some challenges, players have the option to adjust the difficulty settings or wait for upcoming patches.”

“With some isolated flaws but a solid and coherent proposal, Tormented Souls 2 establishes itself as one of the most interesting experiences in recent horror. It’s a game that doesn’t seek to comfort the player, and precisely for that reason, it lingers in the memory long after the last dark corridor.”

“Tormented Souls 2 confirms itself as a labour of love for classic survival horror games, but unfortunately fails to iron out the issues that already plagued its predecessor. While the art direction is top-notch, the experience falls flat under the weight of an outdated combat system. Added to this are a basic narrative and a shallow protagonist, which fail to support the exploration. The result is a title recommended exclusively for purists of the genre, even if it represents a missed opportunity to evolve the formula.”

“Dual Effect has delivered a title that doesn’t try to please everyone, but instead confidently says, “This is for you - veterans who survived the PlayStation 1 era.” Tormented Souls 2 is not just a tribute to its inspirations; it’s proof that small developers can create experiences that stand shoulder to shoulder with the genre’s undisputed giants.”

“Modern games often avoid frustration or challenge, favoring instant gratification, but Tormented Souls 2 shows that fear, tension, and difficult mechanics make the experience rewarding. It delivers everything fans loved from classic horror with modern improvements and new mechanics. Despite some story and difficulty issues, it offers a unique horror experience worth trying, perfect for both fans and newcomers to the genre.”

“Tormented Souls 2 boldly embraces the old-school survival-horror formula: fixed cameras, scarce ammo, difficult enemies and a heavy focus on clever puzzles. Its spooky atmosphere, varied locations and solid horror mechanics make it a win for fans of the genre, even if the tank controls and frequent back-tracking won’t be for everybody.”

“Tormented Souls 2 is more of the same, but that's not a bad thing. Even though the encounter design can become frustrating at times, the game is packed with content, varied puzzles and a haunting atmosphere. It's a good time to be a survival horror fan.”

“Tormented Souls 2 is a love letter to the survival horror genre that major companies abandoned years ago. Although many players won't be able to stand its deliberately old-school approach due to the clunky combat and complex puzzles, those who dare to give it a shot will find a game with excellent atmosphere that dares to challenge the player and be truly terrifying.”

“Tormented Souls 2 delivers a survival horror experience focused on exploration, puzzle-solving, and an oppressive atmosphere. With a fragmented narrative and themes involving parallel realities and dark cults, the title employs classic mechanics such as fixed camera angles and limited inventory to heighten tension. Despite some shortcomings in combat and repetitive progression segments, it stands out for its art direction, effective sound design, and its balance between nostalgia and contemporary elements of the genre.”

“Creepy, challenging, and atmospheric, Tormented Souls 2 nails survival horror’s essence, though its reliance on old tricks makes it feel familiar at times.”
