How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 85 | 6 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 91% | 85 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 84 | 16 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 5 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Legend of Grimrock II is a game that is better than its predecessor in almost every way. The gamers get more difficult puzzles, an interesting open world and new challenges every step of the way. But remember, that Grimrock II isn't for everyone. It's most suited for fans of older games and Witcher or Dragon Age enthusiasts will probably suffer a little while playing. But even they should give this game a chance - it's worth it.”

“The first Legend of Grimrock managed to pay homage to the forefathers of its genre, while being free of the shortcomings that often plague retro productions. Its successor, following the same footsteps has managed to expand this successful core towards new directions. It is bigger, technically superior and it offers deeper gameplay. Nevertheless, if you aren't familiar with grid based gameplay, try it out yourselves prior to purchasing it. ”

“There's a quiet confidence to Grimrock 2 that is utterly beguiling. Bigger, bolder and utterly sure of itself and its intended audience, Almost Human may be looking to the past for inspiration, but it's created one of the best pure role-playing games of the year.”

“Legend of Grimrock II is another glorious glimpse of the past, a window to a genre dead and buried and brought back to life with care and respect, and I urge you to peek through it.”

“Moving beyond a mere homage to Dungeon Master this is one of the best dungeon crawlers of recent years, even if the puzzle balance still isn’t quite right.”

“A bigger, better, prettier sequel to the wonderful Legend of Grimrock. [Dec 2014, p.57]”

“A sublime blend of fighting, puzzling and exploration, but the unforgiving difficulty may be too much for some.”

“Legend of Grimrock offered the vaguest of hints and clues to tackling inevitable obstacles, thus requiring your attention and investment by default. Legend of Grimrock 2 uses the same coy smiles to entice you to explore its world, and while the core game remains as good as ever, the success of its evolution depends greatly on whether that is compelling enough reason for you to do so.”

“No compromise, no looking back. If you enjoyed the original you could possibly die of happiness. The only excuse not to play this gem could be your aversion to the dynamic duels concept. [Issue#247]”

“The Legend of Grimrock 2 is an RPG that's as much Myst as D&D, and benefits from the strengths of both.”

“Contrary to popular wisdom, Almost Human Games’ lightning did manage to strike the same place twice. Legend of Grimrock 2 is not ideal in any respect but still manages to keep players in front of the monitor with challenging battles and interesting puzzles. [Dec 2014, p.78]”
