How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Mechanicus 2 has plenty for Warhammer fans to enjoy, but fails to live up to the great turn-based tactics games of yore.”

““Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus II” dares to change a formula that had seemed successful, and although there are moments of brilliance, it succumbs to the weight of its own ambition.”

“A Strong Sequel That Understands What Fans Wanted”

“Games in this vein, with these kinds of production values and this level of expressiveness in its combat mechanics, are rare.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II presents itself as a sequel that has chosen the path of structural expansion rather than radical reinvention, and in many respects this choice proves effective and consistent with the foundations laid by its predecessor. However, there is no shortage of elements that could have benefited from more attention. In any case, taken as a whole, Mechanicus II represents a coherent and respectful evolution of a formula that had already proven its worth, and one that will satisfy both devotees of the Omnissiah and players seeking a turn-based tactical game capable of standing out for its identity and character in an increasingly crowded landscape of offerings.”

“Mechanicus II refines its predecessor's formula with sharper tactical depth and richer lore, though it rarely ventures beyond what fans already know.”

“The impression left is of a competent, atmospheric, and solid sequel, but perhaps excessively comfortable within its own formula.”

“A solid and engaging turn-based tactics game that doesn't have any major flaws but, at the same time, doesn't really stand out.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Mechanius II might have been more enjoyable; nothing in it is inherently bad, if it weren’t also a boring experience. There are so many franchises in the Warhammer universe to stack it against where it falls considerably short, but even more turn-based tactical games that it just fails to live up to”

“Mechanicus 2 is a sequel that boasts solid, tactical turn-based combat. However, the sheer length of the campaign makes frequent skirmishes an annoying grind, while your strength grows very slowly and a significant jump only comes when you research large units.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II is a game with pretty obvious flaws that won’t deter fans of the franchise already, but the glacial pace, lack of variety, and limited selection of music may make this hard to swallow for others. There is a “rustic” charm to it as someone who grew up on PC games like this, and it does provide an interesting Warhammer experience even as someone who’s only glanced at the wider property. If you do want to take up arms, the presentation, art, visuals, and well-realized cast, combined with a fairly modular experience, could provide dozens of hours of fun.”
