How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Kingdom Hearts III is game with a beautiful visuals and incredible soundtrack that is designed for fans of a multi-volume series first and foremost. They finally got answers to many important questions. It will be difficult for other players to understand the plot without important explanations as story progresses.”

“Kingdom Hearts 3 is not the grand finale as someone hoped for, but nevertheless it's the decent ending of the Xehanort saga. The game wraps up all the story lines in a really nice, even kind manner, but leaves a few bridges to the future of the series.”

“The little that's good here isn't enough for one to shake off the faulty nature of the game's narrative and thematic machinery.”

“If a strong narrative is crucial to your action role-playing game experience, look elsewhere. However, if you can stomach Kingdom Hearts 3's poor story-telling, it's a slick, fantastic adventure featuring diverse worlds and stellar combat.”

“Once again, Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re:Mind on Switch is impossible to recommend without caveats as long as Cloud gaming relies on an erratic, unreliable provision of service. When it does work, it's a joy; every bit as good as any given title in the series, a dream to explore and thrilling in its spectacle. But then it falters, the input lag kicks in, and the illusion is taken away in a matter of moments. Buy this game and you are effectively renting an imperfect version for the duration of the Cloud service's lifespan. Want to play Kingdom Hearts on handheld? Well, there's always the Steam Deck, we suppose.”

“My heart guides my review of Kingdom Hearts 3. This is a superb love letter to fans of the IP that offers much more than proved gameplay solutions alone. It offers closure.”

“For those who have enjoyed the past entries, the issues have already proven themselves to be readily surmountable and the way the game wraps up the lingering plot points will be very much appreciated.”

“Kingdom Hearts 3 is a very satisfying ending to a chapter in the series that has been building for 17 years. Even though the story seemed convoluted at times this game did a great job of bringing everything together and resolving most of the questions we had up until this point. While there are still some questions that will need uncovering, and a Secret Ending that raises a whole lot more the main epilogue featured in the game is a fitting and satisfying ending to a series I’ve loved since it’s inception.”

“Kingdom Hearts is still peerless; there’s really nothing else like it.”

“The cloud version of Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind on Nintendo Switch cripples its combat mechanics with input lag, unstable framerates, server disconnects, and visual compression, turning a kinetic, spectacle-driven system into a sluggish, frustrating experience. The issues are compounded by the inability to play offline, which clashes with the Nintendo Switch’s portability and the game’s reliance on precise, fast-paced inputs. While the core game remains engaging when it works, the cloud infrastructure’s unreliability makes it near-unplayable for many, especially in combat-heavy scenarios. For the best experience, Kingdom Hearts III is better played on anything else where native versions deliver the intended fluidity without these technical barriers. When it works, it almost works, but lag, stuttering, and connectivity issues make fighting Heartless feel like battling the servers instead.”
