How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 86 | 144 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 94% | 89 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 90 | 27 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 96% | 91 | 448 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.4, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 2,570 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“"If Wolverine and Ryu fought, who would win? Correct answer: depends on the game."”

“Fighting games that bring together famous characters from Marvel and Capcom remain popular to this day, and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics currently offers the easiest and most convenient way to play them, especially if you want to test your skills against other players online. Recommending this collection to fighting game enthusiasts is actually unnecessary, since they already know they’re getting a collection of key titles in the genre. That’s why I’d like to appeal mainly to fans of classic arcade machines and lovers of the 2D aesthetics of the ’90s. After all, the battles between Marvel and Capcom characters are among the highlights of this pixelated spectacle.”

“There is a decade of gaming evolution here, including what is arguably the pinnacle of Capcom's fighting game craft. Perfectly preserved and presented, everything is beautifully formed and wonderful to play. Assembled with real clarity in regards to fan expectation, Capcom has thoroughly delivered the goods, from its ton of bonus features to its rollback netcode, with years' worth of combative nuance to explore, learn, and exact in the online arena. Oh, and The Punisher is awesome, too.”

“Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is, in my opinion, a very interesting combo for those who like the Marvel and Capcom universe and who, like me, had access to, if not all, most of these games in their arcade or console versions.”

“Overall, the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics delivers exactly what it promises: a faithful recreation of some of the most beloved fighting games in history, wrapped up with modern features like online play and accessibility options. While the lack of crossplay and occasional matchmaking delays are drawbacks, they don't take away from the thrill of playing these iconic games with friends or against rivals from around the world.”

“Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is an essential release if you're after one of the most prolific parts of fighting game history. The museum mode is a treat, and the games themselves seem to be arcade-perfect conversions, apart from MvC 1 (which should hopefully be fixed in a patch given it's fine in the PC release). While some bonus features from the console versions of these games would've been nice, it's still undeniably a great collection of titles.”

“Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is a beautiful and nostalgic tribute that revives 7 iconic fighting games. Although the lack of additional modes and cross-play limits its potential, it remains an excellent option for both veteran and new players. Still, we can't help but feel that Capcom could have done more to make it the ultimate collection”
