How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

The Rogue Prince of Persia turned out to be a rather mediocre roguelike game, which falls short of both Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Dead Cells.

Within the Prince of Persia series, The Rogue comes across as the poor relation. The idea of converting the game into a rogue-lite genre is not bad, but unfortunately, this implementation lacks the depth of story or gameplay to keep players engaged for an extended period. However, since its early access release, the developers have improved many aspects of the game, making it a slightly above-average title.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a welcome addition to the rogue-like family, mixing amazing fluid animations and satisfying combat. It provides an enjoyable progression without the feeling of having to start over every time I would die. I am excited to continue playing this game and finding all the secrets and ability combinations that come with each run.

The Rogue Prince of Persia successfully blends classic elements of the famous series with modern roguelike mechanics, creating a unique experience. Randomly generated levels, permanent upgrades, and a varied combat system bring great dynamics and replayability to the game. The distinctive visual style and original soundtrack further enhance the game’s atmosphere. Unfortunately, since it’s still in Early Access, the game currently suffers from a lack of content, which means that after a few hours, it starts to feel repetitive and a bit boring. However, the developers aren’t sitting idle, and according to their published roadmap, we can expect a large amount of new content by November. Even so, The Rogue Prince of Persia will definitely not disappoint you. Whether you’re a longtime Prince of Persia fan or just getting started with the series, get ready to die, a lot. Welcome back to Persia!

The Rogue Prince of Persia stands as both an excellent and innovative entry in the long-running series and a worthy follow-up to the developer's previous work. The smooth action, gorgeous visuals, and addictive loop all come together to make for the kind of game that's tough to put down.Though skilled players may be a bit put off by the easier difficulty relative to roguelite genre standards, this is still a very easy recommendation for anyone interested in a more approachable roguelite that doesn't have a massive learning curve. Evil Empire has done a great job in crafting an impressive, approachable action game here.

Despite the technical hiccups, The Rogue Prince of Persia on PS5 is an absolute blast. It’s the kind of game that keeps you up late telling yourself “just one more run.” Evil Empire has managed to respect the legacy of Prince of Persia while injecting it with the adrenaline of modern roguelites. The wall running, the combat, the branching progression, it all clicks together in a way that feels fresh yet faithful.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a roguelike of great potential, with solid, compelling gameplay and an artistic treatment that is well suited to Ubisoft's historic franchise. However, Early Access highlights how important variety and content are in this genre of games. Its content is still immature and we look forward to seeing more of it.

There is artistry here, certainly. The backgrounds are gorgeous, painterly vistas that breathe life into every frame, and the character portraits are slick, stylized looks into each person’s psyche (though many such characters are decidedly one-note). On the gameplay side, that same visual artistry translates to a flowing series of actions that read more like a cartoon than a video game. But a game is more than visuals, and the team behind The Rogue Prince of Persia has no shortage of artists across the spectrum. The level design is stellar, offering alternative pathways to traverse and myriad ways to do so; walk, jump, slide, and climb to your heart’s content.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is an enjoyable roguelite that plays it safe but executes well, proving the Persian prince still has plenty of life left in him. It will keep you entertained for hours, even if its story is fairly thin and nothing about it truly stands out. A solid entry that does little wrong, but little that's remarkable either.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a fast, addictive, and surprisingly faithful spin-off that combines fluid parkour, simple but satisfying combat, and rewarding roguelike progression into an ideal handheld experience. Its story and characters are weaker, and repeated runs can become slightly repetitive near the end, but the strong movement, energetic soundtrack, and smart exploration loop make it very easy to recommend.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a bold experiment that blends precision and nostalgia into a formula that gives the old hero a fresh face. It’s not a game that will appeal to everyone, but it certainly deserves respect despite its many flaws in the current state. This is what happens when Ubisoft gives the right people creative freedom - we get the kind of projects that once made us love them.
