How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 91% | 86 | 955 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 80 | 2 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |

“A true 8-bit spaghetti western mini-epic, Double Barreled is a true shotgun-blast-to a belly-full-of-whiskey,good time. Frantic action, a reasonably large open world and complete freedom of action make this a truly standout and absolutely thrilling ride.”

“Westerado is a fun game for anyone, so long as they've got the patience to learn the controls and can take some time for target practice. The game can be beat in 4 hours running blind, or under 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, making it easy to pick up for a lazy afternoon.”

“Westerado is presented gorgeously and proves itself as a great sandbox game. There is tons of fun to be had here, especially in the quest to find your family's murderer. Remember the name 'Ostrich Banditos'; if they keep making titles as good as Westerado: Double Barreled, we will be in for some cracking games for years to come.”

“It's well written, the pixel art and animation are nicely done, and the fact that you can draw your gun whenever you want, and that you can shoot key characters dead and just keep on playing, gives it a great sense of freedom.”

“Westerado: Double Barreled is great fun in quick bursts, but runs out of steam in a hurry and never recovers from its overstretched ambitions.”

“Surprise of the Month, and not only at the independent game scene. Open-world western thriller with superb visual style. [Issue#253]”

“Westerado: Double Barreled dresses like John Wayne, shoots like Clint Eastwood and has Lee Van Cleef's attitude. It won't last too long, but it's a beautiful, clever and addictive experience. You won't find anything like it on Steam.”

“Westerado is a pleasant piece for all the Old-West lovers, who do not get discouraged by minimalism. It offers an open world and multiple ways to problem solving. This guarantees a high level of replayability to the game.”

“Westerado is a unique case of a retro-inspired game with the depth of something modern. Dialogue, combat, and the story are all free to explore in several ways, from pacifistic runs to trigger-happy bloodbaths with plenty more in between. The game's early era mechanics will be a joy to nostalgically-driven gamers while also making enough concessions to contemporary players that remove most (but not all) frustrations. If you don't mind the pixelized art and a few gripes that come with it, it's well worth it to saddle up for Westerado.”

“Rarely do I sit down to play a game, finish it and instantly start a new playthrough; this is one of those games. Westerado is a great package with lots of replayability and can easily be recommended for fans of westerns or revenge flicks. No other experience that I've played has done revenge so well.”

“None of this is anything like progress, Westerado isn’t exploring new frontiers when it comes to genre work, but the romance inherent to the game’s emphasis on freedom sometimes comes close to overpowering a bitter remembrance of the very real history it cribs from.”
